Hi Gents, I purchased an 06(Apr) CV8 from the networkQ dealership recently. I wanted the 354ps model CV8 as per the advert description on their website, picked up the car and have had it a couple of weeks. However today I noticed the engine plate and a little surprised to find it had a Jun 04 build date. Having looked at all the model info on the forums it appears I have the 328bhp model?

Is there any way I can check to be sure, as I'm a little disappointed. The plate lists the following:

Engine = LS1
Trans = MM6
Axle = GS9

Model V28V837-326

Can anyone confirm which model I have.... Many Thanks

Check your exhausts.

Exit on one side only, is early 338bhp model, exhausts both sides then it the later 354 bhp model.

I have seen a few incorrectly advertised, usually late registered 04 cars.

WTF........is this right???

:-( Gutted...I even told the salesman..I only wanted the 354ps model. I wonder what we can do about it. Just looked at the networkQ documentation about it, there is a section about the quality of the vehicle detail information...sounds to me like these networkq dealerships dont have a clue about the monaros.

There are a handful of late registered 04 CV8's about. The exhaust is a giveaway. Bonnet as well though these have been added by some owners.

Mine is definitely a "face lift" CV8 with the nostrils, extra gauges, twin exhausts, repositioned fuel tank and small boot. Bought in March 05, manufactured in September 04. Had to change the gearbox my self from the MM6 to M12 so it agreed with the "face lift" brochure.

Most Network Q dealers know zip about Monaros.
Special car, not no special dealers!

Ah yes, but Roastbeef bought his car from a Monaro/VXR dealership. Thing is, the salesman will not go into specs only the year of registration in order to sell the car not the facelifts etc.

Currently, said dealership has 2 05's for sale. Both really 04 CV8's but Joe Public only see's a Monaro parked up in front of them and unless they see the VZ facelift next to it, how are they to know any different?

Doubt there'd be a case against the dealership unless they stated in their sales documentation to the buyer that it was the 354bhp VZ model.

All is perhaps not lost.
If lack of power is the issue, Mr Wortec (or Roger at Monkfish) will give, well ok, sell, you an upgrade that will lift the power to about the same as an upgraded 05 model. Their nice shiney exhaust makes the car sound like it was always meant to as well, and you will get better fuel economy (an extra 2 mpg works out as nearly a 10% improvement on these cars...)! Many on this forum shelled out on this upgrade anyhow, so you might be tempted regardless of which model you settle on
Seriously though, I thought that Network Q gave the option of returning the car if it wasn't what you wanted?
Having been on this forum for a few years now, many prefer the 04 model to the newer one. Main thread of arguement is whether or not you like the bigger boot on the earlier model, or whether you prefer the bonnet nostrils on the 05 model (whilst a few 04 cars have the bonnet nostrils retro-fitted, no one as yet mentioned that these as the usual immediate identifiers of an 05 model).
I think that you might consider that your decision rests on the price you paid for the car, as I assume that you are getting in effect an unused car (I assume that yours has delivery mileage). You may have a lever for getting some cash back from the dealer to do the upgrade as if the advert says 05 model then that is what it should be. If you have problems with the dealer, Trading Standards are always a good place to start.
Anyhow, welcome to the club, enjoy your car. Do your research, and it really may not be the disapointment that you feel it is at the moment!

Indeed. A sport pac (exhaust, map and air intake mods), for example, on either variant results in pretty much the same power.

He does have a "case" and was mis sold the car. So he should successfully be able to sue for breech of contract. However the award may only be the difference in market value which won't be very much. He won't be able to claim for disappointment over the performance being inferior etc.

I lost my case against Drive over getting the wrong gearbox corrected. After I embarked on legal action they did however offer me my money back. If he can be bothered to go through all the hassle of legal action he should get something. He should seek advice from consumer direct, citizen's advice bureau etc.

Surprising he new about the power increase but not the other more apparent differences.

Another give-away is the throttle body, does it have a cable operated throttle body or the electronic type. A lot of people actually prefer the older cable version to the computer intercepted version!

Commiserations for not getting the car you thought you were buying, but I find it hard to believe that you didn't do a bit of basic research on the different models before parting with your cash.

Looking at a Monaro from a distance I can tell the difference between an 04 (VY) and 05/06 (VZ) Monaro in an instant. Bonnet Nostrils, different front and rear valence, twin exhausts, different shaped wheels....

I wouldn't trust what was written in a dealer advert. Most of them are computer generated with details that are automatically filled in .... and being computer generated the details are highly likely to be wrong.

Vauxhall dealers seem to know fcuk all about Monaros anyway so if you're looking at buying one it's best to go an have a look at it in the flesh, after you've done your research.

I'm gobsmacked that someone could buy a car like this - it's a Monaro not a Mondeo - and not realise what they're getting. yikes

To be fair I did some research, but was caught out by the registration dates. The Monaro is on on an 06 plate, however it turned out it was built in June 04. I did not find this out until I had made the purchase also as you would expect I thought it was just the base 'option' monaro with the 354ps engine. It’s not hard to expect that some like to have the performance without the 'show', having owned cars in the past that did have the 'show' they often got key'd or scratched and police seem to pay far more attention.

I checked this forum and a few others sites like Parkers etc. They all listed that 05/06 models had 354ps, but as the car is not common the images don’t always marry up, then throw in the VXR models it gets very hard to work out what you are getting.

So you have to expect that the main dealers tell you and advertise the truth...simple...If I had purchased it from an independent/ebay then it could be possible.
That’s exactly why I selected the car as advertised by Vauxhalls own used car award winning Networkq website. I asked the senior salesman of the Vauxhall only dealer, 'Does this have the 354ps engine?' Oh yes was the reply

What else was I expected to do…take a forensic unit with me!

To top it off I checked all the oil/water levels and found that the car had not been serviced as they said it had. The power steering reservoir is on min, the oil and filters have not been changed and the tracking it out…it’s a joke…bloody 125 point check..yeah right!

Check the Network Q site. They offer a 30 day return policy if you are not happy.
I didn't mean in my previous post that you should have done your research before you bought, (although perhaps it would have helped - my dad bought a VW Polo having been told by the dealer that it was a 1300; turned out to be an 1100) but meant that do your research now on options and upgrades. Things may not be as bad as they seem. Still have to say that it depends on what you paid/mileage of car etc as to whether it was a bargain. First port of call must be the dealer who you bought it from.
Best wishes.
