Well, after all the good advice I got about starting out......I'm plumping for a Nikon D40X with the standard kit lens. thumbup

I have seen quite a good deal in Jessops, where they will do a flash (own make) and a Sigma 200mm lens for half price when bought with the camera......

They want £100 for the lens which seems like a reasonable deal to me.....but being a camera virgin I thought I'd check.

Worth it?

Especially as I wont be outlaying any extra for quite a long while......

Going to need a bit more info. I can't see that Sigma do a 200mm prime so assuming it's a zoom - but there are many x-200 zooms. If it's a 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC then it's not a bargain (Warehouse Express selling that one for £84). If it's a 70-200mm f2.8 EX DG Macro then rip their arm off as that's worth £650!

I'm prettty sure it's a 55-200mm.....so maybe not much of a bargain wink

ETA: its normally 150......cant see it for £84.

Its also an auto focus one.

They all are.

Well, until you start to get really specialised anyway.

OK I see the one you mean, with the HSM motor, it's £144 from Warehouse Express so looks like a reasonable deal.

good....the flash was usually £100 and they'd do it for £50 also...

so all in all i reckon £400 for the camera + £40 cashback +
£50 for the flash +
£100 for a 200mm zoom lens
=£510 for the whole package seems quite good. I'll also try to get them to throw in a memeory card for free.

If they won't throw in a memory card,

Don't whatever you do buy one from them. They're way overpriced.

Go somwhere like this and compare and you'll see what I mean

No good getting a good deal on the Camera, and then throwing it away on Memoryyes
I noticed that....they wanted about £35 when a similar one is about £12 at ebuyer

I use my 70-300 Sigma all the time for motorsport, and currently very happy.

Dont know which version you are looking at, but they do the APO version which has (allegedly) better glass.
