Looks like he will get what he wants. There seems to be some interest in it already. Hope the poor sod gets more than he was looking for to recoupe some money he has lost.

"We'll be very sad to see it go. Over the years it's had one meticulous owner and one crap driver."

Cheggers drove Vampire (think it was Hellbender, actually) at the 1981 world finals event as part of a feature for Multi Coloured Swap Shop. Apols to the under 40s, lol/

Gosh you haven't got a fact wrong have you? That's minus points on the geek scale you know ^_^

I thought Hellbender had two (ok possibly more!) drivers... Mr Horn and Mark Woodley? Ok so Cheggers might have had a try... did he walk within three yards and soil himself?

Swap shop was Juuust before my time. I'm going to play the youth card.

I think of it as a transposed fact, haha

There was another notable driver of Hellbender, of course. Now, what was his name? Alan someone...? Oh yes, Herridge, thats the chap!

I just hope Colin and Mark can recoup some of the money they have lost recently. There is an interesting parrallel thread running in 'Gassing Station', where some are expressing surprise that the BBC haven't recompensed the team for the loss of the car. S'funny, that...

ETA Auction got to 27 thousand now. I hope someone isnt taking the piss

Those are the first pictures I have seen of it post-crash and I must say it stood up remarkably well. I do hope they get a decent amount for it. The car is the same age as me and is one of my earliest drag racing memories, I do wonder what anyone could want with it but I'd love to think it will end up in a better way than the Scorpion.

Let's not forget Roz Prior.

Cheggers got the hang of the flame and smoke show, but (wisely) idled it up the track afterwards.

LOL, I have a vision of a few blokes sitting quite happily at the pc, all quite happily bidding up and dreaming of what they are gonna do with there new toy, "will it fit in the garage, hmm, will Martin Hill help me with the engine, wonder if scaffold tube would do for that new chassis", then wham, several whacks around the head and stern voice from angry Wife / Partner, "what do you want that for!!!!", and the bids are canceled.

By the way, wasn't Hellbender the sister car? or did it change name like the Titanic?

Hellbender was indeed the sister car to Vampire but was lost in a top end crash, which killed Mark Woodley, in 1986.

The sale looks as though it ended up a shambles.
