Limehouse Link Tunnel = New digital speed cameras!

I wander if these are radar emitting or work on road sensors, or are they ANPR like specs and "do you" over say half a mile.
If they are deep into the tunnel a GPS signal is bound to be lost, so warnings from GPS units might have to start a bit earlier than usual. BUT if they do emit radar, it'll be bouncing around inside the tunnel easily setting off your BEL 550, V1, etc.

One thing I still don't understand about these new digital cameras is how they're getting around the fact that digital photographs aren't admissable as evidence in court. Anyone know what the situation is on this?

Quite. Traps sound as well, making the TVR sound truly menacing and a Tubi'd Ferrari sound like an F1 car. Unfortunately this can only be achieved at high speed / wide open throttle. 30mph is a bit ridiculous though...

If most of the drivers exceed the limit thru the tunnel, then surely they should be applying the 85th percentile to apply the correct limit to the road?
And not just installing a silly speed camera?

Digital photos are admissable as long as the come from a validated, secure and thoroughly followed procedure. Even enhancing (or tampering) is allowed as long as it is within the confines of the allowed procedure.
You don't think SPECS uses film do you
It's similar to a process we use at work for regulatory archiving. We are supposed to keep copies of everything for 20 years or so, but with mergers and closures things get lost and a reproduction is not acceptable as it could be different that the original. Our solution is still to use a digital reproduction, but with electronic fingerprints which shows which users have modified it - you open it with a unique password and if you change it the user information is encrypted and appended to the file (can be hacked, but why bother)!

Obviously I wouldn't condone it myself, but a "friend" suggested that we start a fund to pay someone to vandalise these cameras... I'm sure Deltaf would be able to act as middleman

That's an interesting assertion given that Section 23 of the 1991 RTA clearly states that the only evidence admissible is that generated by the speed camera itself, e.g. the original negatives in the case of a Gatso. Enhanced images can be produced, but these would only carry weight if continuity of evidence can be clearly demonstrated.
So instead of simple negatives, we now demand to see the original raw data files, documented evidence of validation procedures, documented evidence of compliance to operating procedures, documented evidence of software version control, change management, training etc etc ad infinitum. Hmmm, I can see a whole new ball game here.
There is another thread on this were someone local to the tunnel stated that the recent big accidents were joy riders.
So typical knee jerk reaction that won't actually deal with the reason these accidents happened ('cos joy riders are realy going to care about a speed camera).

Does anyone know exactly how the cameras work?
As has been said previously, there are 3 large yellow cameras placed in each side of the tunnel. There are the usual markings on the road to correspond with each camera.
However, I read in the local paper that there were other cameras that actually measured time taken throughout the whole tunnel. It does look like new small cameras have been dotted along the route (they have a roll of cable behind each one).
Obviously, this will determine whether I have to closely monitor my speed through the whole tunnel or only really concern myself during the painted sections.
