Signatures

Why do we give members the ability to have a signature in their profile? A majority of PHers don't use them to the extent that their use is pretty much frowned on inasmuch as people who do use them (particularly new members) are given a hard time about it until they stop.

So why do we have them? Why not just cull the code and save a database lookup? Or at the very least remove the ability to set them in the profile and then run a SQL update to blank every one that is set.

Your experience goes back 30 months and mine 76 months. We did have it at one point. I assumed the "All the best Brett " that Brett928S2 appends to every one of his posts was a signature. Now that I find that the signature feature of the GS has indeed been removed at some point (or so it would seem) then that's even more sad.

I'd always assumed that he was adding it each time, I don't remember what it was but there was something else that annoyed me about his posts as well

All the 'signatures' are added manually by people each time they right something IIRC

theres never been any in my time here. The folk who write thir name each time annoy me ggrrrr

Cant ever remember them myself apart from people adding them themselves. Although a few sponsors/ certain people once had avators under the name. I think its nice and tidy just how it is.
