I did do a serach for this and even looked in the faq section but came up with nothing really on importing the chassis/body of the car.
What are the rules? How do i get a body in and what would i ahve to do to get it road legal? First hand accounts and DOT site would be great. (couldn't find any info on my local state DOT site)

The registration process depends on the state you're in. I'm in California and we have a tough time of registration because of the smog laws, so we go through a process called SB100 to get it smog exempt.
As far as getting it in the country, you'll have to pay for Duty but I believe that is about it.

Ah sorry, I'm just wondering if i would get any trouble trying to import the chassis or body? I'm in WA, btw which doesn't have very strict car laws (comparative to california. But i am worried that whoever checks the car when it comes in to port, would hassle me and be a complete pain in the ass.The registration process depends on the state you're in. No real issues, US customs considers it automobile parts. Pay the duty of 2.5% or 3.5 % whatever it is and done. As long as it's for personal use. If you're planning to bring it in to re-sell it then it gets sticky.
A customs broker from the shipper will contact you when it comes in, they'll handle it for a fee. Or you can do it yourself like I did.
