Which Lid? Schuberth S1 or Arai Viper GT?
Discussion
Advice wanted please everyone?
They are both available for similar prices on the net at the moment, and i know which size i need in each.
The Schuberth was Very comfortable but a really big helmet and quite heavy. Reputed to be extremely quiet and the sun visor is a nice touch.
Tha Arai was instantly conformable and felt really nice on, obvious has the best reputation for safety and comes with Pinlock. BUT, a few people have mentioned they couldnt live with their Arai because it was so noisy and the visor change caused a cold sweat...
Any opinions people would like to share?

Hi there,
I've been wearing a Schuberth S1 for three years now. It's utterly brilliant
Having tried various other brands in the past, I reckon the S1 is the best helmet currently on the market.
The overall quality is top notch, at least as good as Arai et al. After three years of year-round use, the paint still looks brand new. A 5-minute wash and the removable lining feels new too.
You just don't realise how unconsciously intrusive wind noise is ... until you've experienced the hushed quiet inside an S1 ... Then you'll never want to wear anything else. (Of course, good ear plugs help too, as does the type of screen on your bike, but the S1 makes a substantial difference.)
The S1 got top notch scores in the last impact tests by RiDE magazine, so I'm confident in its German-engineered safety.
The flip-down sun visor needs to be kept clean, but works a treat. Why can't all helmets have one of these?
You'll soon get used to the weight. However, I have just one gripe: the visor's anti-fog coating doesn't work perfectly. I'd strongly recommend replacing it with a pinlock-fitted Schuberth visor, which you can order on-line from Germany quite easily. Aside from that, the lid's perfect.
Edited to say that Schuberth's released a new R1 helmet. You may want to take a look at this too.

Hi again,
Glad to help. I hope you like the helmet as much as I do. Though the Schuberth S1 gets a top 3 finnish (ahead of Arai) in this month's RiDE, so I'm not the only one who likes it so much.
I haven't tried the web site you mentioned, but I've read on-line that others have been happy to buy other gear there.
Incidentally, this is where I bought the pinlock-equipped visor for my Schuberth:
www.motshop.de/shop/catalog/product_info.php/cPath...
Their service was excellent
and they sell the helmets too:
www.motshop.de/shop/catalog/default.php/cPath/1_6_...
Cheers
