In-car Filming
Discussion
Are there any rules (written and unwritten) about incar filming at track days? I am going to an MSV day soon.
Next question, has anyone successfully used one of these http://www.joby.com/products/gorillapod/ wrapped around the passenger headrest with a digital camera?

Not a chance of keeping a camera steady with that thing. Next question, has anyone successfully used one of these http://www.joby.com/products/gorillapod/ wrapped around the passenger headrest with a digital camera?
All the trackdays I've been to are cool with vids - but may insist that you get your installation checked by the marshalls (a lose camera under the brake pedal wouldn't make for quick laps)
If you have a roll bar then these are great:
Mount - Roll Cage Mounting Bracket
Motorsport Cameras mount for roll cage / roll bar.
Fully adjustable with 2 ball joints and fits bars of 1"-1/9" diameter
Suitable for use with our RaceCamera Pro camera kit.
Comes with rubber sleeve to avoid scratching bar.
...
£44.99

Basically it needs to be as tight as you can get it.
If you have a regular road car, then consider suction mounts on the inside side or rear windows of the car (they can get funny, quite rightly, with exterior mounts).
HTH.
Lucky
Some organisers make you sign an extra form, no biggie but often you are not ment to then post the resulting vid on up the net with big ££ fines if you do..... ha ha yes obvuously not very well enforced tho
That link you've posted looks a bit micky mouse tho, generally camera is fine if securely clamped or bolted to the cage or headrests, window suction clamps used to be fine, but have heard some were not happy with then for this yr tho, maybe that was from MSV?

I use the B-Hague headrest camera mount (see http://www.b-hague.co.uk/Mounting%20Brackets.htm )
This has been OKed at Thruxton, Castle Combe and Silverstone on both Bookatrack and Goldtrack track days, so is pretty ok.
Be advised - some organisers / tracks disallow suction mounts, but none have objected to this clamped headrest mount.

Forgot to mention if you've gota cage rather then £50 on a custom mount, its pretty quick & easy to construct a decent mount & bracket, or if you dont weld, then need about 2 mins with a mate who can, costs approx £2 for an exhaust clamp to mount to the cage hoop & buy a pint for your mate.
Not really visable too clearly in this pic, but best ive got.
