Not sure which engine oil would best suit in my 1.9 TDi, don't want to buy a more expensive oil which is not needed but want to be sure the oil I do buy will be fine. Our motoring is a mixyure of short and longer runs.

If you went to your local branch of National Tyres they will do a full oil and filter change with Castrol Edge fully synthetic for only £30, you can't buy the oil for that.

I contacted Opie Oils in regards to what would be best for my 1.9 TDi on fixed term servicing (I'm going to start changing the oil myself every 6k miles) and they pretty much said that all the oils meeting the required spec are very similar (VW 505.01).

I have therefore gone and got some Valvoline Durablend oil which meets this spec, it was only £19.99 for 5 litres, compared to the £30 plus of the Opie Oil brands.
