Buying a 6.0 VXR Monaro - Upgrade options...
Discussion
Just about to buy a Monaro 6.0 VXR (Would like VXR8 but cash flow...) and looking at getting one hopefully with an exhaust and possibly a ripshifter. I assume with a remap this will be around 440bhp in N/A tune?
Next I want to install a supercharger and looking around the Magnacharger kit looks a right bargain?? Any power outputs for this kit on the LS2 in the UK? Plenty in the states but different dynos/fuels etc I would rather know from someone in the UK. Running 9 psi would that be reliable (20-30k per year mileage) and aim to keep the car 18 months. AP Racing brakes would also be a must!!
Looking around RapidGB seems to do a good deal on chargers and brakes. Any other recommendations?
Any advice appreciated!!

I've done the exhaust and ripshifter and agree that's a good idea. Don't expect you'll get as much as 440, but it will sound right :-)
Haven't yet got to the supercharger bit, but some on here have.

I'm sure some of the s/c brigade will add their 2p in due course.

This is my old car.... www.pistonheads.com/sales/295237.htm
It's got the exhaust and ripshifter already (and it's a good car).

It certainly is
All the good bits already on it
Ta chaps, got a test drive in one tommorrow though. Flame Red with same options as silver one and slightly less miles though will bear that one in mind.
Also test driving a VXR8 to compare to see if the extra money is worth it. I suspect not for now. VXR8 in 18 months time.
Any more experiences and thoughts?

Another one may be coming up for sale soon
One or two goodies on it, look at my profile for details and watch this space
Darren - Possibly very interested! PM me or email me as profile with an approximate price. I assume with a 12psi pulley we are talking 600bhp yes approximately?

In a dilemna at the moment to buy the VXR as a toy for the weekend and keep my daily driver, or sell the daily driver and run the VXR every day.
Incase anyone is interested - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/323091.htm - There is the daily driver for sale. Beauty.

I'm not sure you are actually responding to my post, despite quoting it. :-)

What are you looking at changing for?
Because noone wants to play with him anymore cos his car`s a monster

Nah it's red and old enough to start going pink!
Personally I would look in the Pistonheads classifieds for an already modified car. There are a few that will save you a packet. As far as the SC goes, I have a 9psi Magnacharger and it's f**ing brilliant. Mark at RapidGB will make you sign a disclaimer if you want to go 12psi as he says the engines can eventually fall to pieces running that boost without internal modification. I'm sure Roger at Monkfish will also do you a deal so my advice is to ask both of them for a quote. You won't be disappointed with FI, it totally transforms the car!
Take a look at this: www.pistonheads.com/sales/304141.htm
Bear in mind no matter what the number plate says, they stopped building Monaros in late 2005. If you are only planning to keep it for 18 months this could be the way to go?

Nah, if it was going pink I think he`d keep it.
Just doesn`t want to face mine at the next VMAX.......

I would add that 12psi should be fine unless you have a lead right boot, things only break through stress and its hard to use over 635bhp on the road very much. IMHO (and experiance of smaller high boost cars and bikes.)Take a look at this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/304141.htm

It's not really the Bhp that's the limiting the factor but the torque & getting it on the road. Mine produces 'only' 520hp but with 585 lbs/ft from 2000rpm. It's this latter figure that lights up the rear tyres and makes it tricky in the wet (or dry). The top end bhp is the bit you seldom use on the road.
Try a couple out before making a statement as a 9psi car is still pant-wettingly fast!
Also, I've been quoted £4k for new rods and pistons for 12psi. For that I think I'll do the whole Ls7 thing!
