I'm needing to transplant a new engine into an old 6 cylinder wedge and whilst I appreciate that the obvious way to go would be RV8, just wondered if anyone had tried any other options. BTW, the wiring loom is shot, the brakes don't exist anymore and don't even get me started on the interior. In fact the only thing the car has going for it is a good body and chassis.

I keep thinking Griff 500 V8 power, but then I keep getting distracted by the serious thought of a Cosworth pinto, complete with Turbo!

Does anyone know of any cossie powered wedges?

Hats off! I'm sure putting the std 24V engine in wouldn't be too bad, but then bolting on a couple of Turbo's.... bow

I was trying to keep the engine side of it fairly straight forward, so in theory get a knackered sapphire cosworth and then just lift the engine, ECU, Turbo, ancillaries, manifold, etc straight from the car and with a bit of effort (try to) bolt them into the wedge.

There's a chap state side that's put a Ford V8 302 (5 litre) in to an old 280i. This is what I'd go for meself. I think the Ford V8 goes in without to much trouble. Can't remember his handle at the mo scratchchin but I'm sure he'll be along later to show you.

If it's knackered then the project is doomed.

Sorry, should've clarified, not mechanically knackered - rather one that has failed an MOT due to body rot or an accident damaged one, etc.

Did think about an SBF, but wasn't sure if it would fit. I will check this out in more detail. Thanks

a 4.0 ford V6 from an Explorer will fitt without too many changes:

you can use the original engine-mounting points and the original gearbox as the 4.0 is constructively based on the cologne-engine...but the power-output is a big, big improvement.

It certainly is - Steve gave me a run out in it at BBWF 2006 and I can confirm it goes as good as it looks. I have a 420SE and it felt about as fast on acceleration. (Of course, mine sounds better biggrin)

That is exactly the time of thing I'm talking about!

Do you know if he used the std Tasmin 200 engine mounts or did he have to get something fabricated?

Steve's car is also very much a labour of love with some very special one off parts in it. it is probably the most professional engine conversion you will ever see in any vehicle and one that couldn't be copied without a great deal of time and expense.

All the more impressive when you discover that not only is Steve not an 'engineer' in the motor vehicle sense but his entire toolkit comprises a tape measure, a Wickes crowbar, a pedestal drill and a copious supply of Featherstone's Old Potboiler biggrin

If you can get a ford 289-302-351w with a t5 it is a easy conversion. The HP is cheap! Look at this one

I'm pretty sure the 6 cyl wedge chassis had to be altered to allow for fitment of the RV8.
