After some discussions with my flatmate, it turns out we had both been having the same idea...

he has a farm down in Devon, not too far from several tracks. There is a spare garage on that farm. There is also a lot of private road...its a pretty big bit of land.

The join idea of genius was: why not keep a project track slag down there?

Lets say the most we wanted to pay was £600. The only conditions are: its gotta be fun on a track, pass and mot, and survive ragging.

the requirements were:

RWD (might as well get some drift practice in!)
fun handling
quite light (no barges)
easy parts

not that fussed if it has a little bit of rust...nto that fussed if it leaks...as long as it starts, runs, and has functioning brakes, its probably OK.

My shortlist was:

1) MR2 Mk2 n/a
2) MR2 Mk1 n/a
3) 200sx S13....a crap one
4) MR2 turbo rev1....a really crap one
5) FB / FC RX7 n/a...oh dear!

It will actually be pretty well looked after, its not like we are going banger racing in it. We just want to see if we can have a lot of fun for a little money.

any other things to consider? anyone done this?

why not consider a 325i stripped out? more power than your list, rwd, and some have lsd (sport ones if you can get one).

how about an 80's RWD Toyota Celica/Supra? some of them kick round pretty cheap now and hard to break.

325i is definitely on the list, but prices seem to be rising.

Celica Supra would be very cool, but they are a bit heavier than the other options listed...

Not the right forum but there was nothing stating it must be Jap, so what about a MK1/2 Escort? Or Integra Type R driven backwards!!

I was under the impression the price for old 'Scorts was well above slag level, as they are becoming coveted by collectors?

S13 obviously gets my vote, and if you hunt about, you'll be surprised what you can get for £600.

I'd go for one around £400-£450 and use the rest to up the boost and better cooling.

Stripped out, uber lightened mk1 mr2. Am biased but we are considering it as the next project, with a cheap as chips Turbo on the 4age you'd be hard pushed for a better track slag.

Get a shoddy bodyworked mk1 for £300, strip it and spend the rest on suspension and brakes, then if you ain't having enough fun, turbo it.

Job jobbed.
