Xbox 360 came with wrong lead??!

Hi all. Crimbo morning, unwrapped the console, plugged it all in and fired it up...

Get the menu screen up with forza in the disk drive, go to start Forza and am told that the game doesn't support PAL 60, so I change the settings to PAL 50 and the screen changes from crisp, clear and sharp... to ghosted, blurred and out of sharp focus.

So I check all the connections and whatnot - then end up on the phone to some foreigner who's doing the annoying pause thing on the phone, followed by 'yes?' I mean... WTF

Spends nearly half an hour checking how my name is spelt, how I'd like to be addressed, did I prefer 'Sir' or was Mr George alright? AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!! Why won't my new toy work?

Anyway, after a lot of faffing about, he asks me if I can find the switch on the scart cable that changes between HDTV and non-HDTV. Mine doesn't have a switch on it.

This confuses the man who insists that it does and that I'm stupid or blind (this is his tone now). Then he takes a couple of phone numbers and tells me to expect a call within...








...

72 Hours! What a joke! (still no call btw 72 hours later).

So, has anyone else got a switch on their lead or am I being jerked here?

what TV have you got? LCD with HDMI input or a TV with justa scart at the back

i plugged in the HDMI and mine was fine

il have a look at my scart later if you want to see if mine has a switch on it

Which version of the Xbox do you have ie. Core/Premium/Elite? The Core console afaik does not come with the component connector (With the HD switch) but just comes with a standard AV connector.

I had a Core which had no switch on the cable. My Elite does have the cable with the switch.

Right... as far as I know (and I'm not like a techno geek or anything...) I think we have an LCD Telly, that isn't HDTV. The console I bought was the arcade one, which I can only assume is the Core console ie; the basic one.

The picture KiwiSR posted is very different to my lead, and looks like the one the geek man from microsoft was trying to describe

Where can I get one?

Oh so I can buy it out of the box then?

Not sure why I should, but I reckon the graphics will be amazing if I can sort it out

How do I find out if the gogglebox is HDTV or not? Is is usually quite obvious?

If your TV is LCD, it probably will be HD Ready, which means you plug in the new Component HD lead, and switch it to HD.
In the Display settings, change output to 720p. Job done.

Looks a lot like this one:

How old and what size? 32"? 2-3 years old?
They all do from Samsung, so that doesn't help unfortunately.
Peek round the back, unless you're at work, then you can do it later this evening - should have 3 RCA connectors coloured RGB, that's Component. There'll be 2 others (and more) that are RW or RBlk which the RW audio ones connect to, unless you're using a separate outboard surround processor/setup.

It is possible your TV will also have a VGA socket, i picked up a VGA lead for my 360
and a component lead and still prefer the look the VGA lead gives.Got mine from blockbuster
video and it also includes the digital output should you wish to plug it into a digital
amp (highly recommended).

The RCA connectors from the xbox connect to a transfer block that changes it to a scart lead (I think, one of those big fat connections with a slight angle on one side so you don't blow yourself up anyway). You can also bypass the adaptor and stick them straight in the RCA sockets, but it doesn't change the effect

Aye that's another good point.I used my 360 on a CRT monitor for a while, then on an LCD PC screen before getting a larger LCD
TV.Always handy if you only have the one TV, want to play the 360, but the family want to watch Eastenders or summat.

If you've got xbox core package then it doesn't come with an HD lead, just the composite (yellow wire for video, red and white for sound). This doesn't have a switch on it, it's only low def.

You can buy Component cable or VGA cable for hi def on the xbox 360. Only buy the official microsoft ones, they're the only ones in the price range with decent image quality. I've got both, because component image is bright and colourful but not as well defined as the VGA cable image. Most prefer the quality with the VGA cable, me included although I am missing the bright colours I got with the component.

I am in exactly the same situation as you i have a 30 inch sony lcd that is not hd ready, unfortunately it is tuff titty untill you buy a hd ready tv the lead wont make any difference , the 50hz games will work fine for now it tells you on the back of the games box which is 50 or 60.
if you want to online war call of duty 3 works perfectly but 4 is fuzzy
