Anyone fitted a double DIN headunit? (E39)

as an aftermarket addition to an E39 5 Series?

Why do you specifically want a double DIN head unit?

I thought they were predominantly made to fit a double din hole, not to mod the car to fit the unit?

I'd have a single sized head unit with pop out touch sensitive 7 inch screen....

Can be done and you can buy the surround from www.mybimmer.net.

You do need to modify quite a bit behind the unit though as it won't fit, heating ducts etc. So not a plug and play install.

Hi HongKong!

I bought it back!!!!

I tried to find an 'alternative' motor, but after looking at 4 cars (and doing significant miles in the process) I realised that there are so few cars on offer that give the build, performance and all round class of the M5 that I got my old one back!!

Personally I'm not so keen on pop outs. I prefer the more 'integrated' look of a double din.

As you can see on the classifieds my car is for sale now.....shame but I want just the one car for all things so it will go then I will get an Evo 8 like your friend in the club has. If it doesn't sell then I will leave it to Dream machines.
I will try and make the Pub at the end of the month and catch up. Happy new year and all that!
