Hi all...

I've had my Golf 1.6 for 6years and I've decided I want to put some power into it, I know you probably think what a nutter but I don't want to get rid of the car- I'm thinking of doing a VR6 conversion to it as the car has sentimental value to me.... I've bought a mk3 vr6 for cheap which had vandal damage to the body...

I was just wondering if anyone has done this conversion & how hard is to do?? What does it involve??

Also does anyone know of any places that will do this conversion for me??

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Cheers!

You wil find much better sites than this one for such questions. Do a google?
Would have thought that this is a big task as you need to change just about everything on your car ie engine, transmission, wheels, suspension, many electrics, interior etc etc etc.....

Not too bad a job on a MK3, very time consuming but there's no fabrication or modding to do. Drop your whole front subframe then strip the engine bay wiring loom (modular). Fit the VR loom and fusebox then raise the whole thing into place.

May as well put the rear beam and suspension on too if yours has rear drums.

You shouldn't have any problems with the conversion if you have an entire donor car to work from. I'd second swapping the rear beam too. I'd add for urating the suspension components too - Springs, dampers, arb's, bushes etc.. - as the VR is a heavy lump and all the 'standard' mk3 suspension set-ups are woolier than a Welshman's fantasy.

Good luck. The VR6 is an awesome sounding engine.
