I'm not too sure a warranty is a good idea. From the stories you hear of companies not paying out and problems...it makes me think your better putting the money you save on one side for a rainy day. I guess your main concern is an engine re-build..OK ....at worse £4500 at Power and then Dom gives you a 2 year warranty on it. On a newer speed six , it appears the clutch is most likey to go between 12-20k miles....£1k to fix.and I doubt a warranty will cover the clutch..So is it really worth it ????
That T350 looks familiar???? Not VALHALLAs by any chance???

Thanks for your thoughts, I did decide before purchasing the car to save money each month to help cover work that needed doing other than servicing, already looks like i need a new Speedo sensor and heating has stopped working as well, only done a few miles since purchasing the car !!!
I purchased the car from a lovely couple that are enthusiasts of TVR cars, they are members of Mid Essex TVR club, Mr & Mrs D Smith, not sure if that’s the same person !!!
The car has done 33k without a rebuild and my only concern is that I might need one, £4,500 is a hell of a lot of money to me, even more to my wife !!! scary

Heater may well just be the flap in the passenger footwell...Neither I would have thought serious..
Dave was Valhalla on here...and that car was always immaculate when I saw it...and I think he will have treated it correctly...hence no rebuilds...Nice to hear of a Speed Six with 33k and no rebuilds, you normally get the Speed Six knockers.

Thanks Glow Worm, Nice to hear from someone else that the car was well looked after, although we already thought that by just meeting Dave and Diane, great people.
I checked the air vents on driver side and on front window and nothing was coming out, what do you mean by flap on passenger side ?, sorry to sound stupid I'm very new to the TVR world !!
Thanks for the reasurance on the speedo issue.
I also have a small grinding noise coming from the gear stick, only happens sometimes and not very load, just dont like the sound of it, gears change great, any ideas ??

Matt, as you know there are always some uncertainties with warranties, but I have just taken out an Autoprotect policy on my 2005 T350T, which I bought just a month ago. Think the policy is about £1350 plus a pre-inspection by TVR Power (few hours labour). Past experience with Power/Autoprotect with a Tuscan has been faultless, and it certainly gives me added peace of mind. Particularly so as the Power rebuild costs mentioned by others are exclusive of VAT - and may not, in the worst case, cover all necessary parts. Take a look at the Power site, and give Dom a call. Good luck, Ian
I spoke with Mannings at Rockingham and discussed their 'warranty'. It's an insurance really. It seems clearly worded to me and it is easy to see what is and what is not covered. There are limits, as with any insurance, and to an extent these depend on premiums. I suggest you have a look but they seemed reasonable to me.
These are underwritten, I believe, so there is back-up. Mannings are not fly-by-night but you pay for that reassurance of course.
Accept, though, that all insurances are there to make money for the underwriters. What you pay for is the lowering of the risk to yourself.
My experience with warranties from independant companies has been good. I bought a Renault, took out a year's warranty and within 6 months the clutch oil seal went, contaminating the clutch. The plate, backplate and bearing were not covered by the insurance but, when the bill was presented to them, they paid it in full after I signed an agreement that I realised is was ex gratia. I was in a position then when such a bill would have been very hard to fund so to me it was well worth it.

I have had a warranty for the last 2 y
there is quite a lot they wont pay out on.
engine rebuild - £7k ish (to power 2y warranty standard) currently has cost me 3K but there is going to be an argument about this, still going to cost me though
They wont pay for bits that are worn but not actually packed up. further more if they are not replaced at your expense they wont then cover you when they subsequently pack up so for example Deficient con rod in engine -> big end failure. they pay for that rod but you have to pay for the remaining 5.
leaky shocker, they will only pay for that shocker. There isn't a reputable mechanic in the world who would recommend only replacing a single shocker
the list goes on
However at end day 2yrs warranty = £2600 so I am quids in and with a 2y engine garentee wont be renewing it next july

Thanks for everyones feedback, I have been chatting to others about dealerships/specialists and the one that everyone seems to recommend is Sebring International, the cost is lower than others like Castle TVR and Kerridges, so this saving might make it worth me topping up the saving account for the TVR than buying a warranty policy.
I'll have to see how things go with Sebring first !

I've had an Autoprotect warranty on mine for the last 2 1/2 years, and based on recent experience wouldn't bother again. There are lots of Ts and Cs that enable them to get out of paying, and I would have been (slightly) better off putting the money aside instead, so this is what I'll do from now on.

My experience with the TVR warranties is bad. Wouldnt pay out on a rebuild.
I dont know of one person how has had a rebuild totally paid for, best to leave the money in the bank as the bastards will always try to get out of it, and i know of people who have had to wait months for claims to go through. TVRS and warranties do not mix.I have a warranty on my cerb, costs a couple of hundred quid. They have forked out for new prop shaft and some nice shiny ACT manifolds when one of my old ones cracked. They had to fork out for ACT's as there is no such thing as new OME ones now. I can't remember the name of the warranty company but they cover upto different amounts. My cover is upto £1000. I will dig out the details and post them up at some point.

Not for my TVR, but I had an extended warranty from one of the big roadside repair/recovery organisations (not the one with 2 letters abreviation) for my Citroen C8.
Waste of money im my opinion.
Heater blower is covered, so when it packed up I thought right oh it wont cost me. Wrong! They paid for the motor, but not the control module. Guess which is the expensive bit ?
Engine including valve train is covered, so when I started getting a clattering on start up from the top end I thought I would get that done under the cover, The Citroen dealer confirmed valves but said it may be the electronic control (VVT) at fault. Guess whats not covered 'as it is a known fault' and I would have to pay the £1000 odd for the strip down and diagnosis, which they dont pay for anyway.
If you can afford the 'insurance' then just save the premium money in case the worst happens.

Fellen onto this part of the site by accident but thought i would have a look at this topic as it's one close the the heart of many Porsche drivers as well.
IME and IMO insurance backed warrantees are a waste of money most of the time. you would be better putting the premiums on one side.
On the Porsche forum it seems the prevailing wisdom is if it is <10 years old get an OPC warrantee. If it is more than that get one from Baz Heartech who has a track record. Otherwise don't bother.
It's good to hear Mannings are going into this field but as I’m sure they have worked out, your only as good as your last claim and it'll be a few years and claims before many are willing to stand up for them. Good luck guys, but don't let yourselves fall into the reputation of only paying out for the conrod that broke IYSWIM...
For my sins i paid £500 for a warrantee on my Boxster when i bought it. out of a bill for £700+, all of which bar £200 was what a reasonable man would expect to be covered, they offered me £90.

I know it's been mentioned before but the AA warranty is useful, £65 quid for the year and it covers 5 claims of up to £500 a time (less £50 excess) and only if you break down and get recovered. Fingers on my clutch failed and they paid out no questions asked! Paid for itself already.......
