Insurance probs...

I suppose it all depends upon your definition of reasonable. There are companies out there who will do it although most won't consider insuring anyone in a TVR under 25. I did hear of one recent case where an 18yr old was given a Griff 500 by his parents for his birthday and the insurance was £12K with a £5K excess. he thought that was "reasonable". Equally I am aware that one of the guys who works at Bristol Avenue restored a Tasmin 200 for his 17 yr old son who drove it for a while on L plates. I think the insurance was in the high hundreds/low thousands but please don't quote me.
The other problem that you may face is that a lot of the companies who specialise in TVRs not only base accepting mew business on age but also driving experience and regardless of age will not take on new customers who cannot provide evidence of experience of driving powerful rear wheel drive before. Certainly the company I'm with inists on minimum age 30 and minimum 2 years experience with rear wheel drive in previous 5 before they will accept new risk. That said, many companies don't have these limits. Shop around and let the Forum know how you get on!

I tried to get my son (20 yo) inlcuded on my policy, with a number of companies, all of whom said 'No - not at any price'. The chances of getting cover on your own are therefore, in my opinion, zero. If you want some entertainment at a lower cost, I can suggest and X19. I got one for my son to learn to drive in, and had it insured in my name with him as a named driver. Premium was a shade over £800. You will need to demosntrate that you cover less than half the mileage, as the insurance companies get very sticky these days.
I was told of a student who had insurance as a 'student'. He went to work part time in a pub over the holidays and had his car stolen. The insurance company refused to pay out, as he didn't tell them he had a part time job!!!!
