Just got back from a ride out with my good lady. Got off the M42/A5 junction to head home. Lights changed, pulled away, then as approaching exit for the A5 was in 3rd and banking as the cars in front moved across into my lane so I had to accelerate hard to avoid them. Front wheel came up whilst I was still over yikes never happened to me before and was a bit of a shocker but the bike looked after me and did nothing too mad just came down smooth as I eased off the power.

Has anyone else had any "don't think I meant to do that" experiences that are memorable? eek

about two months after my test, i was filtering up the side of traffic towards roadworks. i got alongside the van at the front of the queue as the lights changed so i gave it a load of throttle in 1st to get past him. passed him right up on the back wheel, it felt balanced it was that high - god knows how it was going in the right direction though. came down once i backed off a bit, stuck it in 2nd & buggered off before the van smelt my pants hehe

Powering out of hairpins on the Duke after riding a 4 cylinder for a few years....waiting for the rear to do something trying to suss the limits & the front pops up smoothly while the bikes still coming out of the corner....plenty of grip from the rear then....

Overtakes on wet motorways....why isn`t it moving....? (wheelspin)

Wheel spinning on a wet motorway!?! yikes Far out! Only had that on the ZRX11 when pulling away fast in first in the wet and hit a manhole cover. ZRX is all bottom end. The ZX10R is pants down low but it was the power band that hit me unexpectedly that lifted the wheel on a bend.

Big respec to you for living to tell the tale! bow

I've spun the rear up in the wet a few times and always manage to catch it so far!

The accidental wheelies are always good, the trick is to make it look like you meant it!

my gsx is easy to spin in 4th at about 50mph on a wet road, only takes about 1/2 throttle too. normally just when your overtaking out of a roundabout i find.

No, I mean how did the torque reaction try to put it on its side when the front wheel came up?

It's shaft driven when on two wheels as well as when it's on one and the amount of torque reaction (such as it is) will be exactly the same when it's on one wheel or two... lifting a front wheel isn't going to make any difference.

Once pulled a spectacular wheelie on a TL1000s with my (now) ex on the back, going from a 30 to a national.

Problem was she was quite a big girl and wasn't expecting it.

As the front came up, she started to slip off the back, so did the most natural thing and grabbed me by the neck of my jacket.

This then pulled me backwards on the bike, pulling the front higher still and opening the throtle even further.

I managed to stamp the back brake, lurching the bike forward so the combined weight of my fourteen stones and her not much less was now hard down on the front.

No steering damper to slow things down (took it off to make the bike more exciting...) and the bars went full lock to the right in an instant, almost highsiding us both off.

By miracle / chance / my superfast reactions and undoubted excellence (!) the bike stayed up and I was able to pull in to the side.

Said woman then proceded to batter me about the head with her gloves, helmet and anything else she could find before walking the half mile home in tears.

She has never been on a bike since...

Another spectacular brown trouser moment was pulling onto the A1 on the first roundabout from Edinburgh on the firms TDM 850.

Slight uphill gradient, always greasy and this day it was wet and I had a "ned" in a Subaru up my chuff.
Intention was to come off the roundabout in second, gas it up the hill and disappear from view before "laddo" had re-tuned his stereo to "boom-tish."
The reality, however, was much more like the back of the bike slithering wildly underneath me with the front drifting closer and closer to the wire barrier up the central reservation before suddenly I had grip again and the front shot skywards.
At this stage I was pointing in completely the wrong direction, was hanging on for grim life and hoped that if I did fall over the back the car behind would stop in time.
Slamming the throttle shut, I was briefly aware of a madly grinning face through the glass alongside me, baseball cap on backwards as he gave me the finger on the way past.

This time, the Subara won.

By miles.

there was a picture in bike recently of a bmw hp2 megamoto in a wheelie cranked over to one side. Something to do with the boxer engine configuration that creates a force that pulls the bike to the side.

On an il4 or v2 mounted in the usual orientation the force goes in-noticed

Yup, it's the engine that does the torque thing, not the shaft drive, I believe. Went for a test ride on a 1200GS which tried to dump me off in the dealers car park, one quick throttle blip followed by mad foot paddling. Would have been bad to have laid the demo bike down before getting to the road...

Not noticable at any speed, just standstill.

Not whilst banking, but my most impressive wheelie (non intentional, but more impressive thn any intentional wheelie).

I was riding under the hyde park roundabout into knightsbridge at the traffic lights in front of Harrods filtering through traffic, as I was at the last two cars at the front of the queue (both black cabs) the lights turned to green.....I thought, "I'll make that no problem" and wound the throttle on, needless to say I did it a bit too much. I ended up going passed the cabs on the back wheel no longer able to see the road, but didn't dare to let the throttle off till I was passed them.

First bike (600 Div), traffic lights. Gave it the beans with the missus on board. Vertical moment while alongside cars & vans. Slam throttle shut (newbie moment). Front drops like a stone. Back on the power & away we go. That horrible feeling of falling off backwards... similar thing with an xjr13, grabby clutch & much pogo-ing down the street to everyones obvious terror. Shut down, drop front, bounce on forks, inadvertant jerk of throttle. Boing! repeat until better judgement took over. Yammy clutches. Eughhhhhh.
