I find Smoked rainbow trout to be far, far nicer, and generally much cheaper. Am I unusual in this?

Is the method of smoking different, are you comparing like with like?
I love flakey hot smoked trout, but can't stand your usual finely sliced smoked salmon.
My mind tells me one is cooked and the other not!

I've never tried hot smoked salmon, although I have seen it on the shelf.

I love smoked salmon and so does my son. My wife hates it. If it was cheaper I'd eat it as often as most people eat, say, ham or beef.
Smoked trout is nice too, but different.

à chacun son goût.

For breakfast today I had Black pudding topped with lavabread and rolled in smoked salmon.

It was very nice.

It would not have worked with trout.

But I do like trout.

I think smoked salmon tastes good by itself and with a variety of other flavours.

For the record, I'm comparing your traditional style thin cold smoked version in each case. I've never actually seen hot smoked trout, but would love to give it a try if I do!
