hello all,

I am having my 4mo rear diff rebuilt (actually one i sourced from an S3). This is a known problem with the haldex equipped cars- i just wondered if anyone has experienced it, fixed it, or has any advice?

As my diff is rebuilt and refitted i'll keep you informed (if anyone's interested!), hopefully with some pics too, i'd like to know what's failed on my original diff...

let me know if you've heard those whirring noises ears

Only heard of this on cars that haven't had regular Haldex oil/filter changes.

Well here's a first for you then... has had the filter done on time, has had haldex oil on time every time, and note that it's a very likely a diff problem rather than a haldex unit problem.

Hi

I had the rear diff coupling replaced on my 4 motion which i had a few years ago but it was done inside the 3 yr warranty. (would have cost nearly 400 vw told me)
it was only on 50k and had all the haldex stuff done.

4 years ago I had a rear diff go on my 225 TT. It had done only 38K miles and was VWFSH. Out of warentee and cost me £2.5k + VAT to fix!

At the time the Audi mechanic told me that they had previously replaced rear diffs on 4 other TT/S3 Quattro’s but NONE on A4/A4/A8’s. Surly this highlights a design fault or weakness on the Haldex Quattro cars?

My 225 was chipped and I have to admit that I hammered the car whenever possible, but as it was only a true quattro when being hammered it would seem that the rear transmission is not capable of being used more than occasionally.
