Hanger 111 micro mirror - thoughts?
Discussion
I am attempting to downsize the mirror in my MY04 Elise. Having had the wrong thing bought for me at Christmas (failed to read the bit in the Tech Wiki that told me it wouldn't fit as my ball joint is on the top not the back!) i am now looking for alternatives.
One is the hanger 111 Micro mirror; does anyone have it and if so:
1) does it do a good job of showing the view out ofthe rear!?
2) how do you get on with the lack of dip facility?
3) is it easy to fit (once you've got the blasted OEM one off that is)
What are the alternatives to this mirror?
Many thanks
Miles

Got one on the exige (no supercharger, so some rear vision)
1) does it do a good job of showing the view out ofthe rear!? YES
2) how do you get on with the lack of dip facility? NOT GREAT
3) is it easy to fit (once you've got the blasted OEM one off that is) EASY (but getting old one off isn't!)
To sum up its great if you can get your head around the price

I have a Micro Mirror from Hangar111 and it is awesome.
I tried the £5 solutions from mothercare, halfords etc but the vibration made the mirrors unusable for me. The micro mirror is tiny and does take a little bit of time to get used to.
As you mentioned the micro mirror does not dip and this is a problem, however it is easily fixed. I made myself a small cover which slides over the mirror for when I am been dazzeled.
Now the downside, the mirror is WAY to over priced for what it is, £70/80 is ridiculous for a mirror. I was lucky enough to get mine off eBay for £35 so it might be worth you checking on there regularly.

I've just been given the mothercare version... I must say I am undecided whether to keep it or not.
It's convex so I see a very wide "aperture" of what's behind me and to the side but everything is Micro'd !!! So small I can no longer easily distinguish what is behind me... i.e. whether men in cars behind have pips on their shoulders !
As for the removal of the old fixing point... the stub is still there. IMO it's not worth removing because
a) it's on the smoked part of the screen and not easily visible from the outside and
b) it's hidden behind the micromirror if you use the suction cup option.
Anyway interested on the whether the Halfruds one in convex or not ?

I think this is the situation I'm in - we used the info on the Seloc Tech Wiki to order a Christmas present for me however both myself and my Father-in-Law failed to spot the pretty clear instruction that it would not fit a late S2 (must admit I didn't think my04 was late but hey ho) as the ball joint for the early cars was at the rear of the mirror whereas mine is on the top.
Edited to add: I notice that earlier you said that you'd made "...a small cover which slides over the mirror for when I am been dazzeled." - what and how is this?
Ah well, live and learn I guess

my s1 111s mirror had the decency to fall off while driving along (previous owner had super glued it).cleaned all the gunk off from the inside of the screen and bought a summit stick on mirror from halfords.its a proper rear view mirror but smaller and much lighter than the original item.

Just checked the mirror at Halfruds. They have one @ 5.99 "RAV 37".. It is flat glass (unlike the mothercare "wideangle" version) but about twice the size (although still small)
I'm going to compare it with my original late S1 factory fit tonight to see if it makes a significant aesthetic and practical difference.
Will report back tomorrow

get the smaller suction mirror from halfords. Thats what I did. It vibrates a bit but on my 111S I could just slip off the big OEM mirror while keeping its mounting, and use the suction mirror much further up. Much better visibility and £75 cheaper. IMO the micro mirror is a rip off, £80 for a rear view mirror?! and you don't get any dimming!
Welll I tried the Halford dimming mirror and whilst the suction fitting is excellent the angle of the screen is too great to allow it to show me anything other than the centre section below the rear window
(guess I'm too blessed tall!)
So back to look at other options now
Ah well, I'll get there.

I slightly modified mine to fit 'cos I had the same problem. just file away a chunk of the suction housing plastic at the top so you can tilt the mirror more. Worked a treat for me.
