Oh the shame of it!

Better to tell than be told off? maybe. So I own up to the purchase of our 'new' daily driver which is an SKODA 
and an oil burner at that Its an 2003 Fabia Estate which we picked up for a smidge under 3500 biggies. With only 98000 miles on the clock its just run in and thats how it feels and drives too, which may surprise some. The engine is an 1.9 TDI unit and I am impressed with the performance on offer from it, obviously its not a tarmac tearer but it is more than adequate for shopping/hopping. After 650 miles the fuel consumption has worked out at an incredible 58mpg.
So there you have it, a Skoda and vintage car owner who still frequents on Pistonheads!! Question is will I be horsewhipped at the next show, I make a pledge here and now that I will not turn up in the Sk---.

I know, it is bad really bad but I do like my vintage stuff.It was'nt only a Griff' that I once owned either, from memory : R5 Turbo, 3x Escort turbo, 350i,400se, 450seac, numerous motorbikes and the list could go on.
Still my time has gone and now its up to Matt to carry the torch. He has been offered a ride for the 'Colchester Hawk Kawasaki'team to compete in the MRO - National Superstock series 2008.Matt is hoping that this will lead him to BSB in a couple of years time when he has fully mastered his racecraft. Its a fabulous opportunity for him to really make his mark in Road Racing with an respected team. The bike will be the fabulous new 2008 Kawasaki ZX-R10, a very very mighty bike indeed. His confident and up for it.
We are wishing to attract further rider sponsors who would like to become involved with Matt and help him to become one of Britains top riders. If your interested in hearing more please PM me. (I have no more nice cars to sell

There is nothing wrong with Skodas, David!
I wanted to look at some when we were hunting around for another car for Katie but, my wife told me very politely, NO!
She didn't believe me when I told her that they have changed a lot over the last 10 years and they are now very reliable as well as being owned by VW
On a side note, I did seriously consider thinking of buying your old Bayliss Whatever-it-is. I think it looks great and an old convertible like that would have suited an old man like me
The only thing that put me off would be having to leave the night before a show, just to make sure I got there in time!
What sort of speed did it do?

yes you do occasionally do still get people who live in the past making the old jokes, but i think that says more about them !
just be prepared to be the youngest person (apart from the staff) in the showroom next time you visit though, as the demographic is slightly prehistoric in age on average.

just a little tongue in cheek posting it up!! it is simply a daily runner and mighty fine at doing its work too. As for the sportscars,most likely be another one or two in my garage at some point tho not at the same time! And I reckon that it will be used on the track days only. I found it too frustrating having the power of the Griff' and not being able to unleash it properly, no way did I want to track day that car either.
Had a few enquiries for the Bayliss Thomas, the latest is the possibility of taking in a PX Fabric bodied Swift saloon of 1920 something origins, hmmm maybe. The Bayliss has a good turn of speed, tried it out on the flats at Norfolk and managed an ELECTRIFYING dizzy 49mph. I'm sure I could have squeezed it to mid 50's but its an eighty year old car and just a tad terrifying with only rear wheel brakes and no power steering either, this car has an buff form and so is ready to be campaigned in VSCC EVENTS as it has in the past, its an old sports saloon car. Nah Fu*k it! you don't have to have a new sports car to be a petrolheaded pistonhead, I've been one of those for the past 50 years and can't see myself getting a transfusion any time soon.
