Well, finally started on my repair of my bust gearbox.

Firstly I've decided to go for Andy Holden's Straight Cut Dog Box (cue the sniggers) to replace mine.

I had bought a complete 4.2 with a gearbox to replace mine with and to freshen up whilst it was out but what with Flat refit etc I just don't have the time or the funds. So that's back up for sake and the strip has begun.

I shuffled the car about under it's own steam to get it central in the garage, which was fun as at times it would just stop dead. After I'd finished I popped round the other side of the car to find a massive puddle of fuel!!! Now, Andy APM warned me that the hose was perished but 8 months after the service and about 700 miles it's let go. So make sure your lines are ok and if someone warns you about a line replace it there and then!! smile

Also while under the car I drained the gearbox oil and had a look in the box. Anyone know what gear is forwards of the drain hole? I don't know as I only appear to have chewed up metal there! laugh

Hi Matt

You really mean you've gone for Glebe's straight cut dog boxwink

That does sound like a close one with the fuel pipe, presumably you weren't using the 'lit match method' of providing light to the scene!!

I've sent you a text but just in case you had no idea who it was from, I should be able to arrange to be about either Wed or Thurs afternoon if that works for you.

Kind regards

Andy

laugh True it is a Glebe one. wink

Got the message, email tells me you replied here and then I check the phone. hehe

Yes, the fuel leak was a nice surprise.... Just glad the exhaust etc didn't get hot enough to light it. eek

Happy New Year to you too!

hahaha, I'm sure it won't be quite that loud in a car with an interior etc, it is still going to be loud though. Still, I don't drive mine a huge amount purely a weekend toy. Sounds fairly quite when off load though.

Windsor, no problem, will give me chance to have a poke around your very tidy machine at the same time. wink

The one in the video is particularly loud and I don't think this dog box will make anything like that racket. It will whine but not shriek like that BMW

The most frightening thing on that video is there are still people standing on the grid when the race starts. Unbelievable!

Well, with big apologies to Matt, what I thought was my dog box was in fact a synchro box. And on further investigation none of my other 3 race boxes are dogs either. Which is very odd, and leaves me unable to explain what happened to the dog box I thought I had bought....!
