Hi guys,

a couple of us want to get into track days, but are all on different budgets. We've decided that a track day should be about fun and involve driving a car to the limit. Not have an expensive supercar on finance and tip toeing around the track as your too scared of running off the track.

So we've just wondered is there a decent track day car you can buy for under £1k. The rest of the £5k annual budget will be spend on entree fees, fuel, tyres, brakes & a replacement clutch (if needed, but always good to budget for one).

I would welcome lots of feed back from you fine enthusiasts, so should we look at revising the budget and spend more on the car? £5k is the annual budget!!

Spooky. I've been considering a post along these lines and have actually started to trawl through the classifieds/Autotrader ad's. I've just sold my Mistsi L200 and have nine months of tranfer-able insurance and a parking space avaialble.

Ideally I'd like a car I could pick up for 1-2k, sell for the same-ish after a year and just pay for consumables. Not having been in the second hand car market for a while tho' I always get the feeling the car seller has a hidden agenda but I'm sure most haven't - it's just a trust thing on my part I guess.

If anyone on here's got a well looked after, tidy RWD with reasonable performance, hopefully a few tasteful mods to the suspension/brakes and a genuine reason for sale drop me a PM. A nice 328 coupe with FBMWSH would be nice.. Here's hoping.

Only reason I'm not after an MX5 is that I don't think that at 6'4" I'll fit in one and feel a bit stupid phoning up to view only to turn up and find I can't get in it..

If you can do the labour yourself then you can do alot with a E30 325i

Get a runner, skim the head, new timing belt, rear springs off a tourer, pair eibach front springs, much firmer rear dampers and front inserts, weld the diff up, e46 rack, ds3000 pads. Front turret brace.

Get rid of as much weight as poss, 2 door shells are better.

I think if you have plenty of time and can get the bits cheap by trawling ebay and e30zone etc and find the right runner, then its doable for a £1K
