Which RON of fuel for a 335i?

Now that I have spent all my life savings on a new car, I am left with nothing but rain water to fuel her. Can I get away with RON 95 without damaging the engine or am I expected to go for the Kristal.

A good point - but only taking ownership on Saturday - so no manual yet.

I'd bet a pint that you can put anything available on a UK forecourt in it without ill effects. You might get better economy or performance from the posh stuff - but I really doubt it's necessary.

The quoted power and performance figures for the 335i in the brochure says using 98 ron, 95 ron can be used but will reduce the quoted power output.

BMW are funny bods like this,their later bikes are one of a few(like one!) that have to be run on 98RON, if you run them on 95 the knock sensor picks it up and takes a noticeable edge off both power and response.

Id hazard a guess that it will say 98RON only with 95 for emergencies and you'll notice a big difference when its on 95.

Some premium fuels such as Tesco's are greater than 98. Can these be used also?

Sure, 98 RON or above. You may even get slightly better performance and/or mileage out of the 99 RON ones

I remember a test in Evo a while back which showed the E60 M5 had no power gains running on 98 instead of 95. So if I was an M5 driver I'd run 95, and I would assume all "lesser" NA petrols would be the same. FI changes the rule book a bit though.

So my answer is: I don't know, but I'd hazard a guess on 95 being OK.

Have owned a 335i E90 since March last year and have used mostly 98RON. In the last couple of months I have started using 95 and can honestly say that I notice no difference in performance.
