A few newbie questions

Time is getting very close for me to purchase an M12, am looking at the 3R model, just need a few questions answering:
Insurance, what are they like to insure, ( I am well the other side of 21, and live in a low risk area ).
Service costs, how often and average costs.
Mods/Faults, any mods that really need doing to improve the car, and are there any achilles heels to watch out for.
I know i could make phone calls to find out about ins. and service costs, but you guys actually live in the real world, and don't just sit behind desks chucking figures around, ( apoligies to anyone that does ).

Well I have only had my 3R a couple of months and so cant really comment on some things. I will be doing some mods and most work needed will be carried out by myself too to reduce costs, I enjoy it too. From my research there are some little things need sorting one i had to do which sounds common was all water/coolant hoses needed replacing due to being perished. someone will probably be along shortly to quote running/servicing costs but ins: 28 year old male driving 10 years full no claims bonus decent area garaged 2003 3R fully comp with the wife-to-be on there too £680 - Tescos. I'm 27 and pay about £900 for insurance with 'Greenlight' which includes unlimited track day cover! I can also recommend A-Plan insurance if you don't plan to track the car.Insurance, what are they like to insure, ( I am well the other side of 21, and live in a low risk area ).

Servicing depends on where you take her but I would budget about 2K per year for this.
As for Mods, I can strongly recommend upgrading the exhaust for 2 reasons:
1. The original one has a crap bracket design and will break several times!
2. The original one restricts ALOT of power and drivability high up the rev range so I’d recommend getting a
Roush one with the upgraded fuel pump and wiring. Then get Trevor Jasper to set it up on a rolling road to get it running as good and safe as possible.
The 3R model had most of the problems ironed out but make sure you have a track day sump if you want to do any kind of track event! Oh and a descent Dump valve helps keep the turbo's spinning between gear changes and prolongs their life!
Thanx for your views, as for servicing, is it basically on mileage, ie. 6&12000, or is it something else, and are there differing levels of service where different things are checked/replaced.
As for the exhaust, what sort of price are we looking at.
Lastly, can anyone point me in the direction of where to read about good/bad points of these cars, ( from the real world ), or is this site the best for that.

usual garage tactics.I understand that the main Noble agents would like to find extra work, as would any garage, all adds up, but seeing as a majority of the parts are from easy to get hold of manufacturers, would it not be sufficient to get the basic service done by a reputable Noble garage, and then either get the remainder done at your friendly local/cheaper garage, or indeed, do it yourself.
At least the good old service history would still be intact.
I must point out, that I have been used to being ripped off by BMW garages, so, if there is a few bob to be saved, I'm all for it.

'nother question, have any of you re-shaped the seats in your cars, or fitted different ones, only going by what I've read about the seats getting a bit uncomfortable after a while.
I do prefer the alcantara ones, but these had to be spec'd in the 3R i believe, so I would look at having them re-trimmed, so thought it might be a good idea to either re-shape, or change all together.

Insurance: About 1k
Servicing: Around £600 basic, budget a £1k at a time and you won't go far wrong.
Archiles heel: Being abused. If you track it, service it more often. Apart from that then the list of non-ideal is exhaust, ball joints, rust proofing and oil cooling, all things that have solutions (just search on here).

Re the seats, some people here hate them, some love them, and there are lots in between. I have driven from Bilbao to Marbella in 7 hours (650 miles), only stopping to fill up and get a sandwich, and got out as fresh as a daisy...so much so that I did a 20 minute tour of the strip to show it off
