Good (and classic!) football games.
Discussion
Hi PH gaming world!
Now, I'm not a big gamer at all, but like to dabble now and then.
Over the years my bro and I have loved football games. All the way back to Sensible Soccer on the Amiga, as well as Kick off (what an ace game that was!).
Anyway, we progressed on to ISS then ISS Pro then ISS Pro EVO on the PS1 then PS2 (again, superb games!) then came across TIF: 2002, 2004, 2005.
All very good games (especially ISS and Kick Off!). In a moment of retro-ism we got out TIF2005 last night and started playing it. Stupid o'clock this morning we stopped. Oops! Anyway, I wondered what are THE football games of the moment?
My bro has a Wii and PS2 and I have a PS2 and decent spec PC (which probably limits us somewhat on platforms) but just wondering what's next of the footballing ladder? It's game play we're after not graphics (hence why Kick Off was so loved) if that makes a difference>!
Thanks all
Tony

There is a bloke here who is the undefeated UK Kick-Off champion (undefeated because the competition has never been held again). He is annoyingly good at most other games too... the bar steward. Now, I'm not a big gamer at all, but like to dabble now and then.

He seems to be the PH console god.
Nah, I don't think this guy is a PHer. Mind buggeringly good at most things games related but not much of a PistonHead. He seems to be the PH console god.

I remember him playing through all the local heats and the final at Wembley (well, near there) and the presentation of the cup and prize money by Dino Dini. He got knocked out of the International competition because the guy he was playing exploited a bug in the game and left him a man down, otherwise I think he might have taken that one too.

I recommend pro evo 6. From what I've heard, there is no point in getting the latest one unless you have a 360 or a ps3 and an HD TV. You'll be able to pick it up cheaply as well which is ideal if you're not a big gamer. Pro evo has better gameplay than FIFA.Now, I'm not a big gamer at all, but like to dabble now and then.

ProEvo on the PS2. Just don't expect to be brilliant at it without investing some time and effort.
Ignore FIFA IMO.
Interesting. I was all FIFA in the days of 2003 and so on. Tried ISS Pro ("scorchio!"Ignore FIFA IMO.
when it first came out and couldn't get into the PES series, until I got bored of FIFA 2007. Xbox came with PES 6 so I though I'd give it a go. Pleasantly surprised.
I was always the same; didn't like FIFA series at all (and they were the one to get back in the day), and my bro and I both liked the Pro Evo series. I found them perfect game play with just the right amount of flash-ability.
Some football games you get zero control, especially when shooting, and others you have to do a nigh-on Mortal Kombat style death move every time you want to pass the thing!!

yup - my lasting memory of why we never went for Fifa was that it was all graphics and no game play (this is in the mid to late 90's) - and too many pre-rendered things getting in the way (set pieces for example).Right, Pro Evo 5 (or 6) it is.
Thanks chaps, expect to hear nothing from me for quite a while
