I have an '04 CV8 with Wortec focus pack, with the 'removable' silencers fitted.

No doubts about the performance gains - fantastic - however I now feel that the exhaust system is too noisy, and that's with the silencers fitted. The noise must be ear-drum busting without the silencers! Do Wortec publish any noise figs for their systems??

Ok the 'tone' of the system is great, and way better that the Linden S2 system that was on the car before, but can the noise be reduced somehow? Those removable silencers - can extra quiet versions be made?? Im aware of other owners with a Wortec system who think it's too noisy too. I don't mind sacrificing a few BHP for a quieter drive, less noise also makes the car 'feel' quicker too.

I'm just a bit concerned with the attention that the car gets with the noise, even when being driven gently. Also I don't want to get banned on a track due to excessive noise.

Over too you Wortec ....

Hmm. I'm probably in a similar to you from a noise point of view. I live in a small cul de sac and I can't see it going down too well with the neighbours if the car's too loud.

I haven't heard the Wortec exhaust in the flesh in either mode and I was rather hoping that quiet mode would improve the tone of the exhaust without making it too antisocial. If that's not the case it'll have to be back to the drawing board, unless anyone has any suggestions.

The sound level of the exhaust changes with every upgrade you add, so when you get to the focus pac you are at max volume!!! (headers, 100cell cats and straight through system)

The center box's can be changed to larger ones if you want too. Its lucky the system is designed to be flexible as you are only the second person to ask for quieter.

Box's are made to order, so give your dealer a ring and we can get a spec for your car sorted and priced.

The wortec switchable system for the vxr8 is rated at (I think) 98db quiet and 118db loud.
The walkingshaw one I think is 96db and the factory fit 92db.

Loud is obviously "very" loud and would get you banned from 99% of most trackdays.

given that the way the db system works 98 is still quit loud. For comparison, my old car with tuned race engine was 98 db at 3/4 max revs.

Link for VXR8 "Sport Pac" HERE

"GSE" has a "Focus Pac" on a 04 CV8.

Please excuse my ignorance but do I take it that these noise regulations only apply to circuits when they are holding track day events when anyone can pay to join in. I would have thought that in actual races i.e. F1 that these limits would be greatly exceeded. On the other hand do the DB regs only apply to tracks which happen to be located close to local communities where the noise factor could be a nuiscance to people living nearby. Do tracks that are out in the sticks such as Oulton Park have to comply, and if they do, why? Strange why systems (Wortec) appear to be road legal but not track legal.I eagerly await enlightenment! confused

I am in the same position.

Going to a drifting day at Oulton on 2 Feb.

I have 05 monaro 57 with wortec sports pac. I am concerned that it will not pass the 105 db limit at Oulton. I think I will be taking my vx220 instead.

Are there any published db figures for the various Wortec upgrades?

What model do you have? (05 VXR) (05 CV8)

What version of the switching system do you have? (Removable box's or switching plates)

It is a cv8.

Picador put the sports pac on when I bought it brand new last september. It is not electronically adjustable.

Should I have been given silencers to do it manually? And how?

If it was Sept 2007 then the system will be the latest version and you should have been given 2off 3 bolt flanges (heavy metal plate) which bolt into the system to change the volume.

The sound chart for your set up is on the website........

A friend has a 3" DiFillipo system on his car, along with DiFillipo manifolds and no cats.

His is actually extremely quiet all things considered, but sounds very well.

Tracks are permitted a certain number of 'noisy' events in a year. Pretty much every circuit now has noise restrictions in place for all track sessions - the odd session at Donnington park is a noisy session however and its one of the most fun tracks in the country imho.

There isnt a measure of loudness for car exhausts, the mot simply states they must be effective which in most cases is taken to be non leaking as opposed to effective in terms of silencing. The motorbike situation has now been regulated with aftermarket 'race cans' being marked as non road legal with consequences if caught by mr plod.

I had a Wortec exhaust on a CV8 and a 04 VXR and it was great on the CV8 but on the VXR even with the silencers fitted it gave me a thobbing headache on any long or short journey.

You had a one off system on your 04 VXR which we have changed to a later spec one for the new owner.....

I have the Wortec loud system and yes it was banned from a Bedford track day. Personally I don't think its too loud. Me and the missus just drove to Edinburgh and back for Xmas, (from London), with cruise control pegged to 80mph and its fine. Trust me my wife would not tolerate it being too loud. The only time its a bit boomy is when the revs drop to between 1500 and 1800 odd rpm. Maybe we are just used to noisy cars but neither of us have driven for so long in such a car. I have not installed the silencers yet and probably never will........unless I do another track day!

I bought Bennos Ro and I guess it is horses for courses, I found it much to loud, Wortec kindly swapped it for a quieter system, this is louder than stock but doesn't drone.
