Finally got a reply from PCGB about racing in the open, it seems that to "make it fair on others in class" I've to add 269kg of ballast, making the weight upto 1490kg, Regs state class 3 power to weight must be no more than 3.5kg/bhp, so why must I run at 4.3kg/bhp!! ( it also states that solid bushes on suspension are not allowed, but if you have an ex-Porsche 993 cup car this is allowed, hell, they even put your picture on the front of Porsche Post )
Oh they will let me run in class 2 against GT3 cup cars, they say thats Fair, BX
It all stinks

That is handicapping in the same way that some horse races are done.

This stinks (as I've said before). I followed this series last year. There were four defined power to weight ratio classes. This should be the end of the story. It's an "open" for fecksake.

Is Richard Chamberlains car going to have 700kg of ballast put on board or is that OK because the car "almost loosely" resembles a 911!!

Very pissed off on your behalf.

best regards

Paul has already posted this on the 944 section of the PCGB forum (of which I'm the power mad moderator) and I agree that he should be running in his class that befits his power to weight ratio. Isn't that what classes are all about??????? Adding extra ballast to make him heavier seems ridiculous. If he does run rings around everyone else then fair enough, but they should at least let him race first. This is not F1 with huge sponsorship, it's a club race for goodness sake.

I say he should enter anyway in the class with the GT3 Cup cars if necessary and at least we will get to see him on track after all his effort

I say run it in class 2 and kick some ass!! Go on you know you want to, and I'm sure the car is up to it!! Just imagine the satisfaction of beating them and then making the f**kwits at PCGB eat humble pie

If you haven't been racing it , what have you been doing with it?? Did you get round the problem of crankcase pressurisation and the broken blower belt?? If so hows reliability now?? give us an update.

On re-reading this again I find myself grabbing the blood pressure tablets.

PCGB are effectively saying race with your hands tied behind your back. Or if you don't like that option race your car as it is in a higher power to weight ratio class. ie come and parade around the track but don't expect to actually race anything on a level playingfield.

Hmmmmmm.....Bollox to fairness they are saying Feck Off. A club run for the benefits of it's members? My ar$e it is.

In light of the mock '935's, 968 engined 924s etc to be seen in this series, this takes the biscuit !! Seems OK to spend £xx,000 on bits, but do something a trifle different and you're banned !!

I think a campaign is not desirable, its essential !! Too arrogant an attitude for a club with members, it's not an empire .......

Cheers, Maurice

Paul, just go for it, give those Cup cars a fright. Based on the ride at Donno (when it was N/A) they need to be very afraid . . .

Paul

Don't know you but hello.

Drifted over hear from the PCGB forum.

This might give you some insight.

At a PCGB track day a few weeks ago I asked a PCGB motorsport official (no names here) when we would see 944 Turbos in the Club Championship.

The answer was "Never".

The reason given was that forced induction was too difficult to police, infringements or accidental overboost situations could not be easily proved.

The official told ne that it wasn't a problem because the Open was for that sort of thing an everybody knows a little bit of fiddleing goes on there!

Maybe you are being penalised for cheating in advance.

As the co-builder of said vehicle I am disappointed at MSD's decision to say the least. Why have an "Open" series with power to weight class structures when they clearly only apply to standard cars. What is open about that, it's beyond me?? Unfortunately I am not in a position to fight a case on Paul's behalf, all I did was get the engine up to the limit based on the weight of the vehicle. Maybe Paul should have thought twice before blitzing past a rival competitor on the very first outing of the car, hence shaking the hornet's nest before he had an entry!

In my opinion you should just race it in Class 2 as it is, then get the organisers to make sure that ALL the other cars totally comply with Class 3 rules, that way you will probably have the satisfaction of beating them in the same class anyway.
