Why pre97? If its to get the 340 bhp spec rather than the 320... you will be disappointed as the TVR figures are a bit magical. My 98 car produced more power than my 95 car...

Interesting topic guys,
I run a 1969 vixen S2 and am considering selling her after 25 yrs ownership as I have a hankering for a griff!

Some TVR folks have advised that a Chimera would be better as they are more reliable (?), but I still have a soft spot for the Griff.

I have not looked at any yet, so what do you think?? Any owners out there with a view.

Are they suffering from lots of chassis rot yet, and they unreliable a some would have me believe?

Cheers Roy

Who told you that! Basically the same car underneath sharing almost everything, but the Griffith Has the More Beautiful Body on biggrin

Unreliable, Neither are, yes they have niggles and unfortunately you only ever see the negatives for people asking for help on this or that and not my car run ok again today.
Most cars I would think would have been sorted by now for any niggles. Ok there may be a few dogs out there that havent been looked after but In the whole if you know what your looking for then i see no reason why you cant find a good'en Griff or Chimp.

Hi Ballistic,

Yes I would have to agree the body of the Griff is more appealing.

Reliability is normally due to poor servicing or lack of attention to items when they go wrong, mechanicals are not a problem for me as I work with V8`s most days, but I would be concerned if a rotten chassis is common.
Although I can do the work, I really dont want to spend the time rebuilding a newly aquired car.

I have not driven one yet so when I get the chance we see if it suits the desire!!

Thanks again

Roy

Tripe. Was this 'advisor' trying to sell you a Chimaera by any chance? As has been said, take the body off and they're almost identical underneath.

Not with Hagerty. Mines a '99 and £237 fully comp, agreed value. You do need to have a 2nd (or 1st) car though.

You need to make your mind up over whether you prefer the looks of the Griffith or the Chimaera though Funbobby.
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Because the cars are essentially the same under the skin a lot of the guys on here tend to watch and/or post on both the Griffith and Chimaera forums, so you're not going to get anyone to give you a sensible response if you post on both forums saying you are searching for one.

Get a Griffith, go on, you know you want to biggrin

griff/chims are essentially mechanically identical...
reliability comes down to how well it has been looked after, not the model
the oldest griif is 16 years and the oldest chim is 15...

so anyone talking reliabilty as a sweeping generalisation on cars even over 5 years old .... is in my opinion a bit of a muppet..
