Hi all,

Just completed my first weekend of ownership (98 chim 4.0 silver) and can i just say it's everything i expected and more.

I wasn't quite prepared for the knee jerk emotional reaction it would bring in every male friend/relative nor the effect on the females, im sure the engine note must be tuned to some precise frequency to stir something primal in women. but anyway that's a different story.

Anyway, enough rambling I have two questions that someone may be able to help me with. Firstly i seem to have some problems locking the car, if i shut everything up and press the alarm fob the locks go and the repeaters flash (normally four times) but then the alarm just starts sounding off although a couple of times it has gone on with no problems (even with the roof off). I'm wandering is there something im missing or maybe's theres a way to adjust the sensitivity off the alarm.

Second Question,

Not urgent due to beautiful weather but the seals around the windows seem very poor especially around the driver window are the alot of problems with leaking etc, and what can be done about it if anything.

Thanks in advance

Congrats - bought a similar model over 18 months ago still love 'er to bits.
Even yesterday I'd parked it briefly in Barnes whilst window shopping and every man/woman/child/vargrant who walked past did the old neck craning/pointing/smiling . . . . never goes away . . and that's just a Chimaera making that effect

Secondly, do you mean the seal along the roof or the seal along the bottom of the door? Maybe you are missing the corner piece at the rear of the door (where a door handle would normally sit ) as if this is missing - then you will get wet!
The roof must be pressed down snug with the windows, sometimes there will be a gap between glass and roof seal and that will cause leaks!

Hope this is useful start! There should be threads on adjusting the alarm microwave in the centre console fo the car . .

First query - do you mean you hear the alarm "chirping" when you lock the car? Or is it the full monty - going off and blasting?

Hi,

Nice to hear from others who understand the feeling...

thanks for the reply and yes it is a full bleeding ear blast of an alarm, the neighbours were not impressed when i was trying to lock my car at 1am saturday night.

And on the seals.....

I mean the seal along the top of the window seems to not quite reach the very front edge leaving a small gap at the end and on the passenger side the seal that the back edge of the window presses against doesn't actually seem to be in contact with the window theres about a 1mm gap. Im sure this is going to result in a soaking!

Thanks Again

Steve

wouldn't worry about the window gap too much until you get it serviced, ( i'd let them prat about with the door cards, etc. - i'm too damn lazy ), you shouldn't get wet from that.

sure you have the doors closed properly when you activate the alarm?
caught me out one day.
just a thought.

There's a sensor under the centre console somewhere that can be adjusted for sensitivity.

It could be that your siren is SHAGGED! See here: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=46772&f=8&h=0 Mine did this recently - first it "whooped" a bit, on it's own. Then when I armed it - it went into full monty siren! Had it checked and it's Fd! Trying to source a META M77A siren now.
