I know this has been covered on various occasions and having read previous postings i've deduced that the coolant temp sensor could be at fault. Problem is, i am not sure which sensor does what. I have 2 sensors alongside one another, between dizzy and plenum next to thermostat housing, one is nearest the plenum and is smaller in size(19mm) and white top/white connector plug. The other nearest the dizzy is larger (24mm)has a brown top/brown connector plug. Both connector plugs to the sensors are similar to the injector plugs connectors. Can anyone tell me which is the coolant temp sensor and what the other one is?
I have removed the larger one already, which has stamped on it various numbers. It is a Lucas part and has 35 oC 12 sec stamped on it.

Yhe one you need to check is, predictably, the hardest to get at nearest the plenum. The one you have removed is the thermotime sensor, which just gives extra juice during cranking and the first few seconds.

Thanks Adam. Already loosened the other (now known to be coolant temp sensor) so will remove and replace and see what happens. If fault (none starting) still remains, is it worth replacing thermotime sensor? Could it have such an effect on cold starting that engine would make little/virtually no attempt to start?

If you don't have the cold start injector connected, then then thermomite sensor, will not be doing anything.

It's also wired into the supply of the extra air valve, without it the EAV will not shut off as designed.

This and many other queries are addressed with complete test processes from this index.

Thanks for your help everyone, last link well worth a read. Ordered offending sensors from David Gerald (very efficient and sending from stock!) so hopefully will be running again soon. If not, i'll be back!
