I'm sure I saw somewhere that the police (think it was the police or something to do with them) run car control sessions where you can go and practice cornering etc. in a safer environment. I think I remember seeing that it was free. Anyone know anything about this (what is it called? links would be appreciated) or has done it? I did a Walshy day a couple of months ago and really want to practice controlling the car when the back end steps out (avoiding spins by counter-steering) to boost my cornering confidence. I am scared about losing the back end if I push it on the road now after that day (although it was damp and my tyres have since been changed) and seeing how easy it was to spin it if you get the steering even slightly wrong yikes

Thanks

As it said in the post I've done that already - I was looking for the opportunity to practice some of those things somewhere local and I remembered somebody mentioning this police (I think) scheme...

Keep going to walshy days until you're more confident?
As an alternative Bedford won't be that far from you and is a very safe track. Great place to find out how your car behaves in extremis with plenty of safe run-off (although deliberately provoking sideways stuff isn't encouraged on track days).

Police do VERY little skid or 'car control' stuff. The idea is not to lose control of the car in the first place. Naive I know........but that's how the training goes. I certainly can't think of any such training. Maybe some ex rat does his own course now or something....

For off the road training I don't think Andy Walsh can be beaten. If you want road awareness training, look up Ride Drive. Run by serving, and ex-traffic BiB IIRC.

I think you may be talking more about police motorcycle training. Quite a few ex-police riders offer such courses and are highly regarded.

Maybe these policemen or ex-policemen would also know if any colleauges do the same with car practice?

You could google motorcycle training for more names and contacts, or try www.motorcyclenews.com and have a look around.

Don Palmer's one of the people you want for car control courses.
I'd say go with a few as they generally have their little differences on the theme.

As I thought, they offer all sorts of stuff, info below. I remember them being well regarded on the TVR forums.
