Trumpets again

I'm planning on taking the plenum off for a good polish and clean up and was wondering if its worth doing anything with the trumpets while im there,

Options are
a)shortening the existing.
b)blending the base.
cjust leave well alone.

Anyone been down this route what are the pros and cons

When mine was having work done, the trumpet base was replaced with a carbon item. I dont know what the advantage of this is (heat insulation?), it just sounds good when boasting in the bar.
Perhaps one of the more enlightened amongst us could share his wisdom with me?
