Campsite toilet/showers
Discussion
Each set of toilets usually has a cleaning team attached to it. I've usually found you can find a decent clean lavvy for some personal time. For number ones a hedge normally suffices.
Queue for showers is usually massive at peak times. I normally go just before bed at about 4am when it's deserted!

I thought there was a marked improvement in available loos in 2007. In Parking Blanc and also the MB camping areas there were a significant number of "mobile" toilets which were kept clean and fresh. Also, some of the old brick loos had been renovated. In the prior 10 years the loos have been an ordeal!
I don't use the showers: I sleep in the car Saturday night and stay in a hotel for the other days. I'm too old to camp!!

I didn't notice extra toilets on MB R.
there was the old and smelly permenant block by the external gate and the "normal" temporary block at the other end of the site near where the Popemobile is usually sited (down from Drinking for Holland and up from the trees). Were there others that I missed?
The temporary set on MB are always kept clean and tidy by the couple that live alongside them. The queues are huge though and it's the one time at a race circuit that it's helpful being a girl

Hi Piglet, You're right to pick me up regarding my comment about the loos in MB camping. The good temp loos were not there but in Camping Bleu and some were also in Parking Blanc, I think. Whatever, I hope they return for 2008! R.
Ahh that makes sense, I didn't think I'd missed any. Apparently the brick built loo's at the entrance to MB have been rebuilt for this year so that should help - at least they hopefully won't be as smelly! Piglet,
I think that the loos at Le Mans have been the worst part of my Le Mans experience over the past 12 years or so! Maybe the French are able to put up with them far more than me, a typical Brit, expecting a certain standard! The loos have been one of the main reasons I have tended to continue to use the MRI package, at significant cost, because their portaloos are very good.
It's great to know that ACO are responding to the "requirements" (at least the expectations) of the 75,000 or so Brits who regulary support the event, and are updating the on site permanent facilities.
Interesting the way that this thread is going. A typical Brit topic, leaving the French mystified, probably!
I really am there only for the racing!

I'm not sure the ACO are responding to requirements on bogs, I think the old block by the MB entrance was falling down and they've had to do something about it
Having said that I think most of the toilets around the circuit have now been convered to European toilets rather than the old style French hole in the ground!
It is one of the bonuses of being female at LM, it's the only time & place that the queue for the ladies is much shorter than the queue for the gents!
We take our own shower, it's run on batteries and has a submursible pump so we just heat hot water (solar or cooker) chuck it in a big pot and shower using it. I'm not terribly bothered about being clean (I used to go to Guide Camp
) but when it's really hot it's just nice to cool off a bit. We used to just shower on the pitch in swimming stuff but last year we bought a cheap shower/toilet tent to avoid giving everyone around us nightmares!
OH has media accrediation so he uses the toilets in the media centre, otherwise we'd probably take the camping portaloo.

Or follow my rule of 2006 which was to not wash once we left English shores. To say the tent was a bit niffy after the 4th night was an understatement, but I fitted right in with the Frenchies. The hairwash situation was one that I was worried about, so took shampoo and ususally found a cold tap, however a number 1/2 all over will sort that out.
Personal hygiene list
Baby wipes
Toothbrush + bottle of water
Toilet paper
Deodorant
That should do
