Guys, considering doing some track days this year in my Quanttm Xtreme, and am not sure whether it will pass the noise tests.

Is there anywhere I can find out how noisy it is before I turn up at an event and am disqualified before I start?

if you ask the track conserned they might tell you as to the limits of noise you can make, from the cars exhaust
however they may even check it pre event for you but i am sure someone on here will know the levls.

If in any doubt before you book then just take the car to the relevant track the next time there's a track day on and ask for it to be tested. I am sure they will accomodate you.

That sounds like a great idea, I don't live too far away from Bedford so a visit would be easy.

Thanks

What's the noise limit on an MOT? If a car is road legal then it should be okay for the track shouldn't it?

Yes we do, £9 including VAT and postage both ways (http://bookatrack.com/-pp?17).

It's never going to be 100% accurate as it's a black art but will certainly give you an idea of if you're in the right ball park. Look for a margin of 3dB below what you need and you should be safe.
For example - our Superlights are regularly tested at 96dB but very occasionally fail 98dB tests and require the additional silencer/mufflers. It varies massively depending on the weather - and whether the tester got his end away the night before :|

There is no noise test on an MOT. Plenty of road legal cars would fail a lot of trackday noise tests many of which have much lower thresholds than they do for their race days.

I have attended trackdays in an Xtreme with the standard Quantum silencer and it has been below 100db (only by a db or 2 though). If you are interested in attending a trackday and it's fairly local, give them a call and i'm sure they'll test the noise level for free if you go and spectate a day prior to booking (well MSE did for me).

Cars: Saloon & Sports Cars - 101dB(A) measured statically at 0.5metres and a 45 deg angle, at ¾ maximum rpm.
In addition to the static test, you must comply with our drive-by noise limits. The noise emission from your car
must not exceed 87 dB(A) measured 20 metres from your car, which shall be accelerating maximally at over 60 mph

Test it with everything at full running temperature - it makes a significant difference in your favour. Try to raise the revs at the track test very gently so as not to over-rev. The meter might be a peak reading jobbie and catch a level that's over the limit just because you overshot the required revs.
