Resistor is attached to the motor
switch has 3 wires going all that way (I assume cos it gets hot ~ would have been much smarter to locate it somewhere a bit more accessible otherwise). I am assuming that references to dash off & I,II,III mean it is the earlier arrangement.
Its a PITA to get at the resistor (motor out I think) hence my point about making sure the switch has been wired correctly first. Easy to mistakenly swap a couple of connectors and yield the result in question (thank god for mmeters

Motor out !!!!
I trust you man the fan motor not the car engine ?
Exactly how do you get to the fan and its motor ? Mine has started squeeling when you turn it on ( I suspect a bit of oil on cintered sleeve bgrs will cure it ). If I can find out how to get to it that is.
Maybe the OP has a similar problem and the brgs are dragging such that it need full voltage to get it started. Maybe rubbish, but just a thought.

It is probably easier to remove the engine than the fan motor Exactly how do you get to the fan and its motor ? Mine has started squeeling when you turn it on ( I suspect a bit of oil on cintered sleeve bgrs will cure it ). If I can find out how to get to it

There was a recent thread about removing the fan motor, like modern design it seems to be a major effort. Unlike mass cars needing plenty of screws & trim it involves plenty of trim then sealant & pop rivets (hidden in random places). Hence the advice to exhaust all other possibilities first.

Does anyone know the colour coding for the wiring so that they can be checked against a known set up at all. Mine does have the secondary fan down by my knee, but am assuming that those wires will be a different colours set up.
Mine is shown on the right in http://tvr3.dspen.com/Wiring_Diags/dashboard.jpgGreen is Power, GY, Y and YR are the three that go to the fan motor. Cant remember if the layout is facing the switch or the connector tho

It doesn't matter if the wires are different - didn't you originally just suspect the switch itself? In that case, if you call the dash switch '1' and the secondary switch '2', then because the actual switches themselves are the same, take switch 2 out of position 2, place it in position 1 and connect it up the same as switch 1 was originally connected. Test it and get your answer. Place back in position 2, connecting it back up as it was originally connected - or leave it in position 1 having cured your problem. They are Vauxhall switches I think, so should be dead cheap. Check on the Chimaera pages.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
