Mrs Melv's SLK 230 has been dripping oil onto the drive (so we thought....) for a coupla months since she bought it -(4YO and 10,000miles)

Was advised due to filter design to check that a load of oil hadn't been dumped in the tray when it was changed so jet washed the muck off that and it's now dry.

So slipped drip tray under now it's in the garage and it ain't oil, it's red transmission fluid......

Going into workshop today, any known faults?? It's only 13,000 miles now FFS!!

And now the warranty.....£45 + VAT per hour limit (around London!!!! -joke!) £1000 max claim and inspection/investigation not covered......frown

Don't worry, it's a very common problem.

There is a plug in between the gearbox and the wiring loom that has two O Rings on it. These fail and oil gets out.

Your garage will have done a million by now so they should do it double quick time.

Is this a Mercedes dealer ?

Short story is the plug was remade with white o rings as a fix.

They weren't good enough so they tried again and the last plug that should solve the problem had black o rings on.

Apart from that, every time the gearbox oil pan comes off, the gasket should really be replaced (I think it's because it gets a bit hot and brittle)

It needs sorting though as if left unchecked the oil creeps up the wiring loom and into the engine ECU (it takes about 12 months to do this)

Apparently the replacement rings had gone to mush.

My guy complained to me about Mercedes parts and did work for free.

If he hadn't chucked the old rings away I would have sent them to Mercedes for their comments.....however....rolleyes
