So, new car arrives in a few weeks (hurrah, and I would just like to thank Donut for his ongoing sense of humour
). I have specced it with a usb input as I have a number of biggish usb sticks kicking about. Can anyone confirm if I just plug the stick in? Is there a height restriction on the stick? Do I neeed a cable, special or otherwise?
Once the stick is in how do I need to organise the mp3s on the disk? Generally I have.

It comes with an extension lead, as there is indeed a height restriction. You just plug the stick in and you have basically the same file system as with your i-pod (as you have already listed)

Thats great thanks, mind you I don't have an ipod so will be a stick be ok?
I have a number of sticks does it rescan each time I plug one in?

Yes an USB Stick alone is fine - funnily enough my i pod doesnt work on the usb port (albeit i am using the apple cable, there might be an extra BMW cable). In the manual it says the car uploads the stick onto it's drive although when i disconnect the stick my music is gone. Doesn't matter though, I use a selection of 1G sticks and it works fine, sound quality is brilliant.
Money well spent on that option in my opinion.
What's the spec you went for in the end? Did you go for the M-sports and what wheels?

Really looking forward to it although we have a second hand rx8 arriving on friday which will be a lot of fun.

You need to order the BMW lead and then your ipod will work.
