Advice, please....

Having been messed about by an online supplier since mid December, it seems I'm about to receive my D80 in a couple of days....it failed to arrive today because they're a bunch of inefficient tits silly billies.

Just about to order an SD card from someone else, but wondering now if there are any compatibility problems with high capacity cards...

Anyone know, before I dive in..?

From Nikon own Website:

Nikon said:
Nikon has tested the following SD (Secure Digital) cards and approved their use with the D50:

SanDisk (blue) 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512 MB, 1GB and 2GB
SanDisk Ultra II 512 MB* and 2GB*
Panasonic 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512 MB and 1GB
Panasonic Super High Speed 256MB*, 512 MB* and 1GB*
Panasonic Pro High Speed 512 MB* and 1GB*
Toshiba (blue) 64MB, 128MB, 256MB and 512MB
Toshiba (white) 128MB*, 256MB* and 512MB*

these cards have a rated transfer rate of 10MBs or more.
Multi Media cards (MMC) are not recommended and should not be used.
SDHC memory cards are not compatible with the D50 and can not be used.

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee operation. If using a memory card not listed above please check with the manufacturer for compatibility information. Nikon recommend keeping an approved memory card available for troubleshooting.
Does that help at all? Just because they have not approved the higher capacity cards does not mean they won't work - In CF terms I regularly use higher capacity (but Sandisk) with no problem whatsoever - I have not heard that any Nikon dSLRs have any particular problems.

I was going for one of those, but didn't check play.com...cheapest I've seen, thanks.

I assume they work in the D80..?

I HIGHLY recommend Sandisk Extreme 3 - LIGHTNING quick

Do check they'll work though... a quick call to www.graysofwestminster.co.uk will confirm.

Doh!!!

I know I'm a complete Dimbo at times, but I misread D80 and D50 didn't I?

I'll go back to sleep, except to mention that the Nikon Website has lots of gems hidden away in the support pages

600dpi mono laser cost about £1500, if my memory is correct...or was it 300dpi...? Think it was...

In the early 90's an Epson inkjet printer cost us over £500 and you had to change the cartridge if you wanted to print in colour.

Sorry to talk about SD cards (I also remember a 4MB RAM upgrade - to 8MB - costing over £100 in the early nineties) but I used Sandisk Extreme III 2 GB cards in my D80. Don't buy from eBay (got stung once) and I've had one genuine card go duff, but in general, they're fast and shooting RAW + JPEG gets around 400 shots per card. So, for me 2GB cards are a good price / capaccity compromise. They let me use a couple of cards when the subject matter's important, or let me blast away when I'm snapping.

Agreed, Mrs CVP uses the 2GB Extreme 3 in her D80, no problems
