Photographic aims for 2008
Discussion
Following on from the best 3 shots of 2007, what are your aims for 2008? Be it equipment (detail what you want and why) to learning a new skill or exploring somewhere new.
Last year I didn't really do much in the way of photography that intrests me. I did a lot of portrait, which I love, but I didn't practice any out and about stuff. The great thing I am finding from portraits is the great buzz you get when they get their shots and the love them. Ultimately though it is boring as sin unless you can get out into location. The portraits I like to do are more artistic than just smiles so it is easy to get frustrated through a lack of willing models. For me that is something I want to do this year is explore more of that side of portraiture and try and get out doors with it to learn more about lighting.
Something I recently did was go out with a friend around London. What was great was I had (other than ensuring the sensor was clean this time) a fun time. Something that holds me back more from doing outdoor/landscape is lack of companionship. There is something to be said about doing photography with a friend with similar love. It is company, you both try things from each other and you know they are not getting bored. In the city I'd rather be with someone than not, more for safety as I am nervous about the kit. In the country it isn't so important for me but I realised just how good it is to do a shoot with a friend. My real aim for 2008 is to get out and do more scapes of whatever sort. Landscape/cityscapes/nature has to be the hardest field to do, contending with variable lighting, location, finding the shot. I dont see a point of going out unless you have an idea for the shot and thats where I struggle.
Kit wise I would love a second 17-40L lens so I could keep one on my film body! I'd cheat a little and use the digital then copy the settings over to the film - can I justify it? Not with a renovation still going on.

Mrs Pee has suggested I do a course. I think it may really help.
And how about for the photography? Hoho...
The "hoho" bit indicated the presence of a weak joke

Well 2007 saw me achieve one of my 2 main aims, I wanted to get my own DSLR equipment (rather than still borrowing my fathers) and to see a picture published.
This year I'm determined that I will get my own kit, that I'll take at least one shot that I consider to be outstanding (I feel I've come close on occasion but not quite got there, the trouble is the better I get the higher my own standards become) and finally I'd like to be paid for a shot, even if it's just a "cover your expenses" type deal ... it's a start.

1. Just one absolutely blinding shot that can be printed large and hung on the wall
2. Lots of shots that bring back good memories
3. Get out and shoot something different, the recent cityscapes at night was inspiring
4. Most important of all, enjoy getting out and about with the camera
Chris

where what and how did you get published?
Posted while most of you where having your Xmas / New Year break I guess ...http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Pass City and Guilds Photography Level 2
I'd definately recommend it to anyone thinking of doing a photographic course. I've learned so much already and it's pretty cheap. Well the course is cheap, but I've spent a fortune on new kit (because I wanted to, not becaue I had to...)
Then maybe enrole onto level 3...
