Automotive Researcher - Manufacturer, Magazine etc

For some time now i have thought about becoming a researcher for some automotive entity, whether it be a magazine, manufacturer, tv programme etc but have never found any information on how to go about this.

Ive always had a passion for cars and seem to absorb information on anything to do with cars, from general specs including engine size, colour options etc to how the cars perform.

Has anyone got any info on how to go about pursuing this type of career?
