An alternative to the TVR?
Discussion
As unlikely as it sounds, could the new Nissan GT-R be a possible next TVR type machine to hanker over???
It looks mean, it's butch, it's very very fast, it's different, it will be relatively rare & therefore a bit special, & best of all, it's sort of affordable...... compared to the likes of the £90k-£120k club ( Aston, 911, lambo, fezza etc! )
The interior is a bit of a problem, & it'll never sound like a TVR, but hey, for me it's as close as owt else out there, & i usually have a problem with Jap cars. Basically, a supercar for £55k, ( £35k in Japan )!
Reading road test reports remind me of the sort of acclaim the Cerbera received when it was released.
I've no photos to upload, but you can check it out in just about any of the current car mags out now.

There's no comparison, would anybody really want to drive a Datsun as an alternative to a TVR?
Harsh! There have been some very entertaining cars to come from Nissan. Skyline, 200sz, 300zx. I personally have a 300zx and have had since 2001 and I wouldn't part with it. Reliable fast and a rarety. i've taken mine across Europe and it was superb, fast on the Autobahns and fun on the galleried Italian roads. Tim

The Marcos TSO, now you're talking!
To my eyes, the Nissan looks meaner than the Marcos. It's also a fair bit quicker There's no comparison, would anybody really want to drive a Datsun as an alternative to a TVR??

The Marcos is too narrow, if you know what i mean.

I'm not saying the Zed is an alternative to the TVR but it certainly shouldn't be dismissed as a crap car, because it isn't. Two turbochargers, RWD, FWS, 350 bhp and a targa roof, all adds up to good fun, and at give away prices of around £4K for an immaculate example it's hard to beat, oh, it was quicker than my Chimaera. Just doesn't sound as nice.

How about latest 350z Nissan, they have upped the power to 308bhp about 27k new! Evo rate it as an absolute performance bargain, in a multi car road test they reaconed even after driving it straight after much more exotiv mavhinery its still delivered a hell of a good driving experience for the money.

The 350z is great, but they're too common on the road to have that special exclusive TVR feel. They do turn my head though. The TVR replacement has to elicit a " ooh look, there's a xxxx " kind of response from the non-petrolhead types. Not many new cars below £90k will do it i don't think.

The Nissan GTR is an awesome car but IMO in a different vein to TVRs. Its more a technological masterpiece...
A true alternative to a TVR for me is the Wiesmann (however its spelt) or a MARCOS etc. Something pretty raw and involved by the driver.
By the way the Nissan 300zx is a great car. I test drove a couple before stumping up extra cash for the TVR. A very big car but drove exceptionally nicely.
