Wanted a decented Digital Camera
Discussion
Hi guys,
just wondered if you could help, its that time of year where my digital camera has packed up. I am after a decent digital camera to take some nice photos. Looking for one that can take good night shots and one that can take wide angle shots. Also some thing compact, that you can take on nights out in clubs & wipp out at any given moment. Just wondered if any one could recommend any? Also you you have any photos you can post from a camera you've taken pics from.
I've heard Cannon, Fuji and the new Pannasonic is supposed to be good.
Can you guys help.
This is considered one of the very best compacts :

Your spec is pretty optimistic though. You want small size, wide angle and good at night. That doesn't really exist. That canon has glowing reviews though - only downside is that it isn't the smallest compact so if you can compromise on zoom+picture quality a bit you might want to consider a Nikon Coolpix 5100. Both are compared in this weeks amateur photographer magazine if you are interested.

more so than the G9 which is big bulky and is not wide angle , hardly a point and shoot model which the OP is looking for

If its just for taking drunken pictures in night clubs, most anything will do

I've just brought the Ricoh Caplio R7 for £150. 28-200mm zoom so wider and longer than most compacts. A review of it here.
Mine's quite noisy though when moving the lens in and out and turning it on as the lens cover moves out the way.
I'm taking it to the PH/ Autosport show tomorrow so I'll get back to you with what it is like.

I think it largely depends how clear and precise you want your photos to be.
I'm certainly no photographer, typical point, shoot, reshoot, wonder why it's blurry, reshoot etc so typically have stuck to cheap compacts. Recently got a Nikon D40 though, which makes you think a bit more about it. Not good for nights out on the piss, or lugging around everywhere.
Here's some examples
£100 Kodak CX7310....:

£80 Tesco 8megapixel "Lumicron"......:

Nokia 6280 cameraphone

Nikon D40

I think there are definately people who can get better pics with what I've got than what I'm currently getting, it's down to practise, setup and the right shot really
