280i Exhaust Manifolds - pics anyone?
Discussion
Hi guys - I feel like a bit of a cheat but I am looking for manifolds to allow me to fit 2.8i into my Sunbeam Alpine. I THINK your 280i manifolds might fit - would someone be so kind as to post or email me pics if they have a set off the car or perhaps on the engine but out of the car?
many many thanks

From my vague recollections at looking under the bonnet of a 280i, they use stock ford manifolds, as there is plenty of space.
If you need to use special TVR manifolds, then stick a rover V8 in, e.g. a 4.6l. You know you want to.
I will check later but am sure Adam is right and they are stock ford, I am working on my 280 at the min and there is loads of space compared to the 450 If you need to use special TVR manifolds, then stick a rover V8 in, e.g. a 4.6l. You know you want to.
I have seen many with std. Ford items and others with tubular manifolds, my old 280 DHC had tubular items and I guess they were stock, it wasn't that old when I bought it, and the chap I bought it of had obviously spent nothing on it, glad that ones gone.
Im not the best person to ask for a picture of my current ones though.
Regards,
Chris.

all ford powered tasmins left the factory with standard iron cast ford manifolds. you´ll get them cheap as they are used on all(!!) ford cologne engines...sometimes you´ll find complete engines for 50,-€ over here.
tubular manifolds for the 2,8i are very rare and often searched by ford-capri-owners. the ford tubular ones might be hard to fit (spacewise). dont know if there existed special-fabricated tubular ones for tvr.

The cast manifolds do have ford numbers on them but are not from a Granada or Capri. They are specials with their elbows tucked well in to fit as there isn’t a lot of room. The standard Capri/ Granda ones stick out where thet attach to the exhaust and certainly won’t fit an early Tasmin. However they may fit other cars. Depends how much space you have
TVRCarparts are selling pairs of stainless manifolds for 280i. Reasonable price but my braised cast ones are fine for the moment If the split grows stainless is the only other route I have

Thanks all for your input and comments - having seen phot of the tubular ones (cast WILL NOT fit) I think they are a bad design and would rob at least 10bhp as one tube meets the other at virtually 90 degrees.
It looks like I'll have a go at making them myself - equal length mandrel bent etc with a proper collector.
Just wanted to say thanks for trying to help me find a good off the shelf alternative
I promise to wave to wedge drivers in acknowledgement - so if you get a wave from a Sunbeam Alpine it's got a 2.8i under the bonnet...
