Had my Chim 4 months now, after approx 30 years of fwd saloons (and 5 years of low powered rwd before that.

I knew it would take a bit of getting used to, and so far have sucesfully experimented with a little bit of hanging the back out (very safely at low speed with no other traffic about) just so I am not caught out.

What I am concerned about (and it may be a fault on my car) is that on country roads (in Surrey, so they have always have been dug up and are pretty bumpy)that when I am 'making progress' with hard acceleration, I find it very hard to steer a straight line.

The car seems to hop from one bump to the next with me over correcting all the time.

The shock absorbes dont let the car bounce more than the spring returning and the tyres are at approximately the correct pressure.

There is no noticable play in the steering.

Is it me, or have I fogotten that rear wheel drive cars or perhaps just cars with firm suspension, are not as easy at speed on a rough road.

It may actually be that sometimes I am travelling a lot faster than I am used to, but not always.

Any thoughts anyone ?

Accelerate & lift off on a straight flat road to see if the car is crabbing due to alignment problems. It should go faster & slow down in a straight line.

I changed to Nitrons and that made a huge difference on how the car handles poor surfaces. However, i then put low profile rims on which causes the rims to crash into pot holes frown
