Throttle pots - fit and forget
Discussion
I've identified a new high-reliability replacement for the flapper throttle pot.
Fully sealed and 1 million cycle rating, it should outlast the engine.
Anyone else interested? I'm going to get a few in for evaluation. It'll need a bracket machining to adapt it to the current plenum bracket, so let me know and I'll get a few made.
Price should come out about 25 to 30 quid - assuming I can get some connectors to plug straight into the current loom.
If anyone knows the specs of the smaller hotwire pot, pass them on and I'll look into this too.

Adam, Thats quite a coup! Presumably its 5000 ohms linear (not logarithmic) with 90 degrees of rotation and fits the "D" shaped output stub of the throttle assy without mods?Fully sealed and 1 million cycle rating, it should outlast the engine.
All the NON hot wire applications of the flapper era were 5000 ohms and 90 degrees.
The Rover SD1 Club adaption using the RS rotary position sensor was 105 degrees which was not critical but has a possibly degraded top end performance.
Regarding the connector, its fairly easy to solder/graft the three wires into the original connectors pins, or splice the wiring and seal with heatshrink.
May I ask the manufacturer/supplier/cost of the pot?
Ramon
I'd much prefer to supply with new connectors, mainly because I won't have to ask people to send in their old pots. I've been offering a recon service for a while but this is difficult without exchange pots to work on.
Unfortunately the new pot's travel angle is much greater than 90 degrees, but this can be overcome with a small bit of nifty electronics which will be all part of the package, and not affect the ECU at all.

The throttle pot on mine is much bigger than the one in Wynns piccy. It has a connector where all the pins are in a straight line the connector is triangular almost house shaped i would say. If i could remember how to post pictures i would. I would be very interested in one of these if they are the same one.
Cheers

I have changed jobs recently so I have been holding off ordering the pots - they are special order you see. Luckily my work is electronics-related so most component companies will bend over backwards to help me ;^)
I'll get some prototypes ordered and made up fairly soon.
Let me know if you want me to test one I'll get some prototypes ordered and made up fairly soon.
