Has anyone fitted these to their S? If so how much lower do they have to be fitted and can you see the old holes/worn carpet etc

They sit about 1/2" - 3/4" lower and the old holes are not vivible.

Many have done it and IMHO it greatly improves the appearance from behind.

Fit the stays in the existing holes in the roof first then you'll be able to mark position of the lower holes with the stays in place. And no, you can't see the original holes.

Finally got round to doing it, dead easyas everyone said and looks pretty. More to polish GOODIEEEEE

What's the technique for drilling the holes with regards to the carpet - do you strip that away, then drill the fibreglass, then cut a hole in the carpet, before re-attaching it?

The thing which is worrying me (my car has Chim hood struts, but they sit too high, so I had assumed they were in the original holes) is that mine appear to be fractionally too high - not 3/4" off. Beginning to wonder what the hell was done to it when the new struts were fitted. It's off at the TVR Centre at the moment, so not able to investigate just yet.

Well personally, I stuck masking tape all over the carpet where the holes would be, marked the tape, then drilled through the tape, carpet and body together. I drilled slightly higher than the markes, to ensure the struts would be under compression when the carpet was squashed down.

Exactly as Andrew said cant improve on his instructions. However one side wasnt quite right, I didnt feel there was enough tension with strut braced but two washers between the lower fixing and the bulkhead solved the problem

Yes. Mine have marked my screen badly.

I think that once I have found a way to clean the old ali oxide off the screen I will cover them with a clear plastic adhesive sheet. Hopefully that will stop them marking and keep the appearance.

Funnily enough I've found toothpaste quite effective at cleaning the rear screen!

Also, if I keep the roof stays polished up they don't seem to mark as badly
