As I am sure many of you know the 50 mph stretch of dual carridgeway into Bournemouth had "double facing Gatsos". They were really "normal" gatsos on the central reservation, but the backs were made to look like fronts. So as you drove towards what you thought was the front, it was really the back. So people thought "the other directions being policed, I am ok" and speed through resulting in Flash,Flash. I saw a number of people caught out, in this way. The Gatso cameras have now been moved to the verge.

Rumours had it that these "double facing Gatsos" could work both ways but this was rubbish, as one side pointed to the ground and the other to the sky! also a Gatso cabinet only has room inside for one camera, one flash gun, etc.

Cheers.

PS. does anyone know if the two Peek Traffic "Traffiphot" cameras are working, which are a bit further down this stretch of dual carridgeway ????? (still a 50 mph limit).

There is (or was...haven't looked recently) one of these double headed cash registers in Plymouth, on Western Approach. As you say, one side points up to the sky somewhere, somewhat spoiling the illusion!
