Well that's how the industrial revolution occurred and it enabled us to be sat in centrally heated luxury, communicating in the most extraordinary ways whilst enjoying so much that we take for granted it is spellbinding to actually list off the achievements.

Well how timely. I'm now recovering from a small piece of metal hitting my eye while grinding a bracket for my cable shifter. It hurts like hell and is taking a long time to heal. Been to the doctor to make sure I didn't have some more serious injury. I'll be wearing protective goggles from now on even though it is a pain.

Over here in Hong Kong OHS is very stringent, but just across the border in China Ive seen some very scarey stuff.
Ive also seen some "innovative" construction methods, like when we built a factory for Nabisco about 12 years ago, our subcontractor couldnt get a crane in because of ground conditions, so they erected the last 1/4 of the building by hand....
Thy laid the columns on the ground with the base at the holding down bolts, attached an outrigger with a pulley to the top of the columns, then attached 4 ropes to the top of column in N,S,E,W positions, then a bunch of guys tilted the columns and another bunch pulled the ropes until columns were vertical.
Then they used the pulleys to pull the rafters up.
Another pulley to winch a guy up to connect rafters to columns.
Pulled all the purlins up by hand.
They put up about 100 odd tons of steel in about 5 days this way.
It looked absolutely diabolical, but with so many guys and they way they did it, there was a large factor of safety and they used harnesses and PPE.
